The component shelf is pretty strong. I bought two. One is currently holding a Yamaha Receiver which weights approx. 22bls and the other is holding a 5 disc changer/ DVD Player and a cable box. Please note that the shelf is more likely designed for something a bit bigger than your cable box, such as a receiver, DVD Player etc.

I would highly recommend this shelf for anyone looking to hang their cable box or dvd player underneath the tv. It is a very sturdy high quality shelf. One recommendation since it is very heavy is to make sure it is put into a stud in the wall. The shelf also looks almost invisible which is nice. Excellent, I bought 3 and they are strong and look great. Used as store displays for laptops and monitors, they are very stable and sturdy. I also like the way they can swivel from one side to another so that I can direct the angle they are viewed by my customers. This is the third shelf that I have purchased and all are perfect. They are very easy to install...drill some pilot holes and use the hardware that is included. Also, they look very professional and well-built for the price. I looked around for awhile to find the right shelves for a smaller living room and these are perfect.
