Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of OmniMount CCH1B Center Channel Speaker ShelfCustomer Review: Does the job Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to hold a Polk Audio CS2 center channel speaker. The stand my tv sits on does not have space for the speaker. The speaker weighs 17 pounds, and the CCH1 holds it with no problem. My TV is a Sony KDF60XS955, an LCD rear projection model, that is maybe 4-5 years old.
Some pointers: First I thought I didn't have all the parts or it was different from the picture, but it turned out that some parts are put together for shipping and must be disassembled. There is a spacer attached to the feet that comes off (used for CRT TVs) and is not used in my set up. I also did not use the leg extenders. Shallower backed TVs will need them.
I mounted the legs in the rear of the two mounting holes. The more forward of the two positions was too close and did not work although this seemed to be recommended based on the picture. Some have reported the two pegs in front scratched their TV, so I placed some small felt adhesive furniture pads on the back of the pegs (after I screwed them in). I "dry fitted" the CCH1 a couple of times to ensure I was getting the right length on the legs and placement of the included rubber adhesive pads for the front where the mount rests on the TV top. My TV front top is not flat but slopes forward, so getting the rubber pads in the right spot was crucial.
Be sure to adequately tighten the screws that hold the legs to the desired length. These tended to let the legs slip back in if not tightened well. Also I stuck the rubber pads to the feet and to the front bottom of the CCH1 but kept the paper backing on the outside during a couple of the "dry fits" then removed them for the final placement. The pegs in front are fairly short and do not block the LCD screen on my TV model as some have reported with theirs.
The CCH1 is barely noticeable from the front. Only the lip. Of course, the speaker is definitely noticeable sitting above the TV.
Overall this product does what it is intended to do and the black color of the CCH1B goes fine with my TV. Lastly, my wife is ok with the look of it. (she wasn't sure just looking at the picture on the box.)
