Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of OCZ 2GB PC2-5400 667MHz DDR2 Value SoDIMM Module (OCZ2MV6672G)

Customer Review: Instant power
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased the OCZ during Amazon's last super special. Installed the 2gig memory into an Acer Aspire One D250. Turned off the computer, removed the battery. Let sit for a few minutes to disspiate any leftover charge. Found a philips head screwdriver that fit...have to be careful with screwdriver selection. Wrong sized tip can easily deform the soft screw head...its on pretty snug. Popped open the cover (its the one in the middle). The old memory chip is held in by two chromed rails, one on each end. Pull the ends of the rails outwards simultaneously and the memory chip pops up at a 45degree angle. Ground myself by touching something metal. Removed the old memory. Next lined up the new memory into the slot (can only go on one way with the slot on the memory board facing the front of the computer) and wiggled it down until the brass contact points disappear. Pushed down the memory and the two chrome rails snapped into place with its tiny nubs falling into the memory board cutout on the sides. If the memory is not seated all the way down, these rails do not lock down.

Put the battery back in and fired up the computer. After it has finished booting, hit control-alt-delete to bring up the task manager. Look under the performance tab and noted the acer recognized the memory; proudly displaying 2086780! Could not be easier. Only problem was getting the proper screwdriver head to fit.

Customer Review: Quick 'n Easy
Summary: 5 Stars

I've never upgraded any physical components in a computer before, so I'll admit to being nervous about breaking something, but I have to say it was really very quick and easy.

I have an Asus 1000H and the other reviewers are correct - you just unscrew the back, unclip the old module, slide it out, slide the new one in and gently push it down until it clicks into place.

Just to be safe, I went into the BIOS and I noticed the RAM was showing as 1.99GB.

I did all this during a commercial break while watching TV last night!

The computer isn't SUPER fast, do don't expect any huge increase in speed, but there is definitely a noticeable improvement - specifically, programs load and close quicker and virus scans were also a lot faster (always a plus in my book). I haven't tried any kind of multimedia rendering yet but I anticipate that being quicker too.

Definitely well worth the money :)

Customer Review: Works great in Macbook Pro!
Summary: 5 Stars

I installed 2 of these in my Macbook Pro running OSX 10.5.x and Windows Vista Ultimate 64. In vista it only showed 3GB of ram but the score was 4.9 on the memory speed test. In Mac I get the full 4GB.

For the price you cant beat this upgrade. Concidering that Apple wants to charge 10x as much you cant go wrong with the upgrade.

How to install it on a Macbook Pro:

Power down the laptop.
1. Remove the battery
2. locate the plate where the battery removal switch is (flat shiney plate)
3. Use a small Philips head screwdriver (size 0) to remove the 3 tiny flat topped screws.
4. You'll then see the memory behind that plate. The trick here is to be firm when installing it. Don't smash it in but use consistent pressure to push the memory in then click it down. If you do it right both chips will line up. If it doesnt look straight then it isn't. Take it out and try again before powering up.

Customer Review: A nervous first-timer replacing RAM
Summary: 5 Stars

Encouraged by so many reviews, I decided to buy this RAM and install it myself. I was pretty nervous since I had never opened any of my PCs or laptops I owned previously. I bought some micro screwdrivers from Fry's and watched a couple of YouTube tube videos before embarking on my mission. My heart sank as my fears realized. My netbook did not fire up after I replaced the memory first time. I had to open it again, and I actually did that for three times before I realized that I was not locking the memory properly. I was just not pressing it hard enough into the slot. After I figured that out, it was just sweet. As one reviewer mentioned, just pressed F2 and then F10 while booting it up. The whole thing probably took a few minutes after I did it right. cool.

Customer Review: Great value!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this because it was the most affordable 2GB RAM stick I could get (after shipping, because with Amazon's promo, shipping was free). I tested it and got no memory errors (though I cannot speak for other RAM sticks sold by Amazon), this certainly brings me peace of mind and satisfaction from my purchase.

I bought this piece to upgrade the RAM in the Asus Eee PC T91 (the touch screen model) and it was a little tricky getting the RAM stick properly inserted. This was more of an issue with the computer's RAM controller itself, as I found reinserting the original OEM RAM stick just as tricky. I suppose just as with any computer, make sure you install it correctly and you shouldn't have any problems.
