Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Next Generation Remote Control ExtenderCustomer Review: Better than I expected Summary: 5 Stars
In changing from a 36" tube TV to a 40" LCD, I wanted to build a cabinet enclosure to hide the cable DVR and the DVD player. The wife and I also wanted to match existing cabinetry with raised panel doors in the family room. I found this RF Extender while searching for a way to operate the DVR and DVD within a cabinet. The reviews looked good but I had concerns with compatibility of the Time Warner DVR, box noting some potential of trouble in the reviews with these. All turned out flawlessly in my case.
I ordered an extra battery and the 3-eye emitter to cover both the DVR and the DVD player. I was a bit impatient to test with the RF battery charging for 48 to 72 hours. No tweaking needed for the TWC DVR box,.. work immeadiatly. One small supprise was that the UFO can work without the emitter as long as the UFO has a decent line of sight.
My UFO sits on the bottom shelf of my new cabinet,..I needed the emitter cables only once I had installed the cabinet doors. Also note that the remote unit with the RF battery still sends a IR as well,.. so before I had doors on my cabinet, the DVR would get both RF and IR signals ocasionally and act a bit jumpy as if I had keyed twice or not at all. Very smooth and predictible once the doors were installed and closed. The one Cable remote works the TV via InfraRed as normal and also now sends the RF signal to the UFO for the DVR and DVD player in the cabinet. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Remote Control Extended that works Summary: 5 Stars
I have tried remote control extenders from Best Buy and Circuit City purchased locally and to be polite, both sucked. They were terrible. The one from Best Buy could not control the TV from more the 8-9 feet away. The Invalid Asin (is that really this items name) works flawlessly and gave me exactly what I needed. After installing a Yamaha DSP the remote eye on my Panasonic Plasma TV was blocked. I had already purchased a Logitech remote as it seemed to be the only remote out there that could control the Panasonic TV, Yamaha DSP Speaker, Comcast DVR, DVD and VHS players. All I was looking for was something to control the TV. This unit came with the necessary attachment to put over the infrared receiver for the TV and a weird little battery transmitter that replaced one of the batteries in the remote. I hooked up the remote receiver, and charged the battery. I was surprised and delighted when I placed the battery in the Logitech remote and could finally control my whole system again. I don't have a clue how or why this thing works. But it does and does a perfect job of it. After my disappointing experiences with the locally purchased units and listening to the electronic store cowboys tell me how nothing out there would do what I wanted, it's good to know I could look at Amazon, read other reviewers comments and hope I make a good purchase. When it turns out this good it makes the whole shopping experience a real positive.
Customer Review: Simply Amazing Summary: 5 Stars
I have to admit I was a bit skeptical that something of this design could possibly work, but after reading many positive reviews I decided to try the product. Like many others I wanted to hang my flat screen on the wall and have the cable box in a remote location (for me that's the basement below the TV). I saw this product and a true infrared repeater and thought, hey, the infrared repeater should be much more reliable than this thing. Well, I was wrong. Got the infrared repeater and it wouldn't even work. Had to stand directly in front of the receiver and then only 25% of the time did the signal reach the cable box. So I returned and bought this. After a short, anxious wait while charging the battery just enought to test it, I plugged the transmitter battery into my Time Warner Cable HD Boxes Synergy V remote control. I pushed a button on the remote and to my suprise, it worked!! I've had it for a few weeks now and I have been suprised by the battery life of the rechargable battery and the reliability of the remote. I can control my TV from anywhere in the house now. It's absolutely fantastic. The other cool thing is that I was able to run the external repeater back upstairs to the TV and am also able to control the TV volume/power from any location that I can control the cable box. How great!
If I ever need another remote extender I know what I'll be buying. I'd HIGHLY recommend this device.
Customer Review: So far so good Summary: 5 Stars
Ordered last Wednesday and shipping was free. I could have paid $7-8 to get it shipped before Xmas. I took my chances and I received yesterday , which is not bad at all. I don't know that much about these as this is my first purchase on this type of item. I relied heavily on reviews of this and other items that serve the same basic function. I went with this one as it seemed to have a lot of good things said about it.
Today after an extended first overnight charge on the batteries, I set this thing up in appr 10 minutes just to see how it would work. I just had a new Dish system installed and an extra box that was installed in the basement that I intended to run several TV's off of. The problem being that the type of Dish receiver it was and the location where I wanted it installed would not allow me to opoerate the remote w/o pointing the remote directly at the receiver. One of those TV's is out in a detached garage which is approximately 40 ft from the satellite receiver. The other TV is located in a gameroom in the opposite side of the basement. After trying out the gameroom TV which ran incredibly smooth, I went out to the garage for the real test. Absolutely flawless operation. I can operate the TV in the garage as if the Dish receiver was right there next to that TV. Thanks to the other reviewers in guiding me to the right choice for me and my applications.
Customer Review: The real deal! Summary: 5 Stars
Worked perfectly for my Cisco cable box, Toshiba DVD player, and Brighthouse Network remote. Both units are now hidden away in my master bedroom closet (behind both a solid bifold and a wall).
When the unit arrives simply charge the batteries for 24-36 hours....insert one battery transmitter into your existing remote....plug in the receiver and place it near the devices to be controlled. I can now point the remote anywhere in the room (at the floor, away from the TV, etc.) and it is just as responsive as line of sight.
I was a little worried on the placement of the UFO receiver, but all I had to do was place it directly on top of my cable box and DVD player. I didn't even need to raise the antennae. If you do have issues with control of your device they can most likely be remedied by changing the settings in the battery compartment (A, B, or C. The factory preset of 'B' worked fine for me, although the instructions say 'A' may work the best for some cable boxes).
I can't speak for the battery life just yet....but from what I hear it should last about a month...and then simply switch the battery out with the 2nd battery that is charging in the receiver.
I chose this unit because I have a very neat flat panel install...and I didn't want to have to attach anything to the front of the TV....I have to say I highly recommend this product!
