Customer Review: Stronger signal than a Range Max 150, faster than my dsl server
Summary: 5 Stars

No hiccups in 50 days of ownership.

A friend gave me a used WGR614 when he upgraded to an N speed router. It was so old that it didn't have a version number. (I was able to confirm that it was older than Version 4.) It died about 50 days ago and I bought a Rangemax Wireless-N 150 (WPN824N-100), hoping for better signal strength. (Range MAX, get it?) Nope. Same 80% strength (at 33 feet) as the antique WGR614. So I bought a new ($15 cheaper) WGR614 Version 10 and it pegs the strength meter.

I have 2 computers, an XP and a Vista. Not enough to overload a router of any description, as mentioned by people who didn't fare well with this model.

This router will not do gigabit speed, or even N speed (150Mb/s), but my dsl cable only provides 10 megabits per second. The WGR614 says it can do 54 megabits per second. I did internet speed tests and got 100% of my advertised 10 megabits through the WGR614 V10.

I am able to use most of the security features on the Netgear WGR614 and I think they are sufficient. I did not do any updates of the router firmware. The WGR614 "found" my dsl server and connected before I understood what it was trying to do. It can't get any easier than that!

Customer Review: A definite improvement

Replaced a Linksys 11.b router, after experiencing lots of little issues. I have to explain that for over an year I have been using an VOIP for all our phone communications, so the stability of the router is essential. Oftentimes, we would have issues like no dial tone and it was necessary to reset the router. Spoken with Vonage, and they said they do not recommend Linksys routers. So, a little because our wireless network has grown (my company gave me an IBM T40), a little because of these issues decided to upgrade. Sweet. The installation is very easy, for once I did not need to read anything (I still do no know the meaning of the different lights on the front for instance, and frankly I don't care). Popped in the CD, installed the software, everything went extremely well from the very beginning.

The router is very fast and stable, and it has also eliminated a recurring echo on some phone calls we experienced before. It looks good, the range is also better, but I understand this is a function of using 11.g over 11.b

Recommend it, and would not do the same for Linksys, despite their very good customer care service. I don't want to talk to customer care, and I had to call them more than once.

Customer Review: Fits the bill

I bought this to replace an wireless access point that gave up the ghost that I had had from Netgear for several years.

I already had a Netgear eight port router system and under if it ain't broke. . . II did not want to disturb as it

I noticed that I could actually get this wireless router for significantly less than an access point as well as gain more ports and ran across an article on how to set this up in place of the access point so it would work with instead of against the already in existance router.

I followed the directions of both the 614 instructions and the online ones mentioned and the installation went smoothly and flawlessly.

Man, that is a pleasant change!

My laptop and my daughter's hooked up without a hitch once I had added the security key code into each system.

I have had the unit up for a couple of weeks without a single dropped connection.

It works fine everywhere in the house, including the basement.

As winter is just ending I have not ranged outside to see how far I can go, but I am very happy with the installation, operation and cost of this router.

Customer Review: Supports WDS, Stable and Fast G Router
Summary: 5 Stars

As of writing this review, there are nine different versions of the WGR614 router. I have two version 9s, the latest version to date. If you want good value for the money, this router is it.

Setup is very easy, I didn't use the setup wizard. I did the manual setup and was able to setup wireless internet within five minutes. I have ATT DSL and use the router's PPPoE to login to my internet service. With the latest firmware, WDS is now an available option. For those who do not know what WDS is, it is "Wireless Distribution System" which allows you to setup the router as a bridge or a repeater to extend your wifi range. If you have two of these routers, one router would be your base station, your dhcp, nat, or simply put, your internet router. The other router would be the extender to increase the range of your wifi.

I don't understand why so many people report trouble with this router, as its been in the market and well proven along with the Linksys WRT54G. I have had setup these routers for many clients and have not had any problems with them.

The Netgear WGR614 is certainly a very stable, and fast 802.11g router and I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Great Price and Easy To Install
Summary: 5 Stars

I had to unfortunately replace my old Linksys Modem Router that was 3 years old, because my lovely cat decided to knock it off a shelf one less time, that and we have humidity issues in the house too. After finding out that there are practically no modem-router combinations, I had to get the modem and router separately, I bought the Actiontec GT701D and of course the product we're talking about the Netgear WGR614. I find it to be a very good price and very easy to install. It took me literally 5 minutes to put the CD in and set up the router while I was hardwired. I find it's a lot easier to set up a modem or router when you're hardwired to a computer.

I love the speed. I have had no connectivity issues with the router or my dsl provider, which happens to be an independent provider. The only issues is a recurring issue with my security system and the phone line, which someday will be fixed, but I can't blame the router on my phone line issues. It's a good deal for the price for people that don't need a lot of speed and aren't covering that much of an area. I live in a small 8 room house and I have the equivalent of the lowest speed with AT&T.
