Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of NETGEAR GS108 ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch

Customer Review: New Hardware Version Shipped By Amazon
Summary: 5 Stars

Despite the image and the product specification, Amazon.com does ship the newest version, version 2 as of this comment, of the switch. The newer version has a smaller form factor and consumes 50% less power than the previous version. I needed both of these features as the switch is going into a home network enclosure and be turned on 24/7 so it has to be small and consume as little power as possible.

I own other Netgear products -- routers mostly -- and never had a problem with them.

Customer Review: STABLE, FAST, and QUIET
Summary: 5 Stars

I work in a computer lab where we constantly re-image devices (using Norton Ghost). I have 3 laptops and 1 DELL GX620 desktop and all of them have Gigabit connection. When I connected those 4 to this switch and run the imaging process simultaneous, I get the same performance (0 differences) as I run 1 laptop to the GX620. This testing was done with Cat5 cables that I pick randomly from my lab. I can't wait to add more devices and using Cat6 cables to get my work done faster.

Customer Review: Exactly what a switch should be
Summary: 5 Stars

I am extremely pleased with this Ethernet switch. I have been using it for a couple of months now, and have not had to even think about it since I first installed it: It's just works.

Pros:
- Solid, metal packaging. Feels very well made.
- Runs cool.
- Compact design.
- No configuration or software needed.

Cons:
- A power switch might have been nice. (Very minor)

Would definitely recommend.

Customer Review: Speed killz (worth every penny)
Summary: 5 Stars

While 100 base T networking is fine, gigabit is awesome. My server communicates to my clients as if the drives were connected by firewire. The improvement is astounding making the server so much more useful. I have used netgear switches for many years- in general they have performed flawlessly and when this specific model stopped working (my only netgear failure), they replaced it with a new unit promptly. Remember, the pro series carries a lifetime warrantee.

Customer Review: Great slim-profile switch
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this to install inside of a home control panel in our closet - so we had limited space. This was the switch with the smallest profile I could find and the metal case is great for heat dissipation without a noisy fan.

The only thing that would have made this thing more perfect was to have a power adapter with a power plug that is angled instead of straight. Having a straight plug effectively makes the switch almost 1 inch deeper.
