Customer Review: Works fine
Summary: 5 Stars

A note about all the users here who gave this one star because the capacitors blew up within a few months to a couple years of purchase: Do a Google search on "capacitor plague" and read about it. There were widespread problems with electrolytic caps from about 1999 to about 2005. It's not clear what was happening, but it affected a lot of manufacturers, including Dell and others. It's not because they were using cheap parts; it was some problem that affected most of the caps produced during that time, and most manufacturers didn't realize it until they started getting a lot of reports of "my capacitors blew up after 24 months".

I just got one of these and it seems fine. I expect the capacitor problem is now gone.

Customer Review: Rock Solid -- Physically, Compatibility, and Funtionally
Summary: 5 Stars

Am using this switch with a wide range of networked devices including the following:

- MacBook Pro (late 2008) @ 1GBps
- PC with a Marvell Yukon port @ 1GBps
- Netgear ReayNAS DUO @ 1GBps
- HP JetDirect box at 10 Mbps
- Linksys WRT54G
- Westell 7500 DSL modem/AP @ 100Mbps
- SlipStream Powerline bridge device @ 10Mbps

The GB devices share the switch with everything with no issues and can operate at 1GBps. This device can support jumbo packets but as of yet I have not tried. The device itself is solid, using the tried and true netgear metal enclosure, not the plastic of some of their other devices.

Customer Review: Compact charger, well made
Summary: 5 Stars

We've figured out how to make switches, so it's no surprise this one just works. There's no fumbling with crossover cables, uplink connections, etc. My Mac shows up as a gigabit connection, my older devices as 100 MB.

The device is compact, low lying and feels very solid. Fanless and draws only 12V and 1A -- it runs cool and needs little power. The power adapter is relatively compact and fits well on the average power strip, using up only a single slot. It's slotted to mount in several orientations and comes with an external ground for a rack mount.

It's a good choice for someone who wants something a cut above the usual consumer grade switch.

Customer Review: Outstanding
Summary: 5 Stars

Anyone who has run Cat5e or better cable, done the jack wiring and finished off a clean, in-wall installation has some trepidation about just what transfer speeds you can actually realize when connecting to a gigabit switch. This Netgear switch is simple to set up and delivers the full promised throughput a mixed wire/wireless network with 8 nodes supporting both Macs and PCs. To feed the GS108, expand the number of ports and rout an internet connection from a cable or DSL modem I would strongly recommend Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station (Gigabit) MB053LL/A

Customer Review: Been working great
Summary: 5 Stars

Don't know a lot about these type of items just know been using a D-Link for the last 4.5 years and it finally died on us. Our internet provider told me to contact the manufacturer but figure it wasn't worth it becuase it has been constantly on since January 2003 so got our monies worth. Expect this to last just as long or longer. What is nice about it is I have more outputs 7 vs 4. Believe we received an increase in speed too because the lap top with a slower processor is faster now and the connection is at 100mbps which takes full advantage of the cable connection. So far everything is working great. Will let you know if it holds up.
