I bought this to replace a D-Link PCI Network Adapter for my Dell e520 Desktop. I previously had bought a Netgear GA311 to establish a Gigabit connection between an office desktop and our gigabit router. It went very smooth. So, now I am buying a second one for my own same purpose.
I know this card will establish just that: a gigabit connection. There are several other necessary components involved here, however, besides the card and the router. First, the entire connection must be using CAT6, for example: Cables To Go - 27145 - 25ft CAT6 550Mhz Snagless Patch Cable Blue. It must be all the way. That is the only Ethernet cable designed to guarantee that kind of throughput. The other is: any switches that may be included in the connection, along the way. These also must have gigabit ratings, such as Netgear GS105NA Giga Switch 5Pt Metal or Netgear GS608NA Giga Switch 8Port, both of which I have used and rate highly.
Again, this only establishes a gigabit connection between a computer and a gigabit router. As at least one reviewer insists here, the transfer rate you end up with will depend much on your computer hardware components' speed and also the service you are using. The resulting transfer rate is only as fast as the slowest component involved in the transfer--just like a chain is as strong as its weakest link!
