Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of NETGEAR FS105NA Switch 5Port Metal

Customer Review: Netgear Switch is Great
Summary: 5 Stars

This switch is great. Since my house is pre-wired for an ethernet network, within 5 minutes, I had all my rooms in my whole house on the network. Verizon hooked my FIOS internet router in my basement. Merely connected one port of the router to the network wall jack closest to the router which was wired into the Verizon patch panel in my garage. Just had to place the Netgear switch on a shelf in the patch panel, plug it in to the electric outlet, plug in the ethernet connection coming from router and then each of the connections from the living room and the 3 bedrooms. Voila -- all connected to the router and to the internet.

Customer Review: Status lights on each jack, reliable
Summary: 5 Stars

I like this FS line of Netgear's 5- and 8-port 10/100 switches because the status lights are on each jack. You don't have to match up a jack number on one side with a light number on the other side. I've had several at work and at home and not one has ever failed on me. It's wall-mountable. And they now come with a small, lightweight, energy-efficient AC adapter instead of the huge, heavy one that Netgears had been known for. The $10 rebate process went smoothly, though I received it on a Visa card rather than a check. I tucked this switch in my brother-in-law's TV furniture to network his TV, Blu-ray player, and Wii.

Customer Review: Switch provides unexpected benefit
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the FS105 simply so that I could connect a TiVo to a wired network in a room with a single Ethernet port and a desktop that was already using that port.

Lo and behold, when I connected the switch the download speed on my desktop doubled. Overall system performance is now visibly faster, even in non-internet applications. Evidently the desktop had been using system resources needlessly processing Ethernet traffic, and the compartmentalization that the switch brought to my network eliminated this unnecessary processing.

It's great when a product actually does more than advertised.

Customer Review: Working Perfectly For Our Needs
Summary: 5 Stars

With the purchase of a new Internet ready, 3D TV, we needed to extend our network to our rec room. While our wireless can reach there, we wanted the solid performance and security of a hardwired connection to both the TV and the Blu-Ray player. Our house is already wired for network so it was as easy as patching from the router to one of these switches in the rec room and then plug the TV and Blu-Ray in. Now we're streaming movies, music and Blu-Ray content with no hiccups and a painless installation! Top it off with us purchasing it at a low price along with a $10 rebate and this couldn't be beat.

Customer Review: Excellent, inexpensive switch for home networking
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this product by Netgear to be very effective in setting up a home network. I switch between a PC using Windows ME and two laptops running Windows 98; the system works very quickly in moving data between systems.

In addition, I use the switch to control access to the Internet from these machines. the value of a switch over a hub is that it grants almost your entire internet bandwidth to the machine requesting it; it moves faster than a hub.

The other great thing about this switch is that it is small; doesn't take up a lot of space, and works reliably.
