Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of NETGEAR Wireless Router for Video and Gaming WNDR37AVCustomer Review: Look No Further, Just buy it!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This router is amazing. It took me 20 minutes to setup because i had to power cycle it after the firmware upgrade. I actually called Netgear and had them walk me through the process even though it was very simple. The had me set it up from the GUI instead of the CD. After setting it up, I noticed a drastic increase in my speeds. My Desktop has never loaded web pages so fast. I decommissioned my 4 year old Linksys wrt54g version 6. I found myself rebooting my Linksys every 3 months and after my support was no longer free, Linksys tried charging me $30 just to talk to their tech support. I googled the issue and figured out how to reset it each time. Anyways, enough about the old and slow Linksys. With the WNDR37AV, you have many different options on how you want to setup your network. The security features are great and I actually connected my external Western Digital 500gb HDD and it picked it up right away. I can view the files from my laptop and my desktop with ease. It also gives you the ability to access your files from any where in the world via HTTP or FTP. The technician I worked with told me not to use FTP because it would be slow. UPS just delivered my D-Link 321 NAS and the NetGear tech told me to call back and they would help me setup my NAS to work correctly with the router. How sweet is that. Just get the router. PLEASE make sure you purchase the WNDR37AV and not the WNDR3700. The WNDR37AV is an upgrade to the WNDR3700 because the 3700 has a few bugs that could not be fixed with a firmware upgrade. The 37AV has all of the new and upgraded features. Thats a poor way for Netgear to do business because all of the 3700 owners are stuck. I bought my WNDR37AV from Best Buy but do not call them. Just go to the store and search for it in the Router area. I called 5 Best Buy stores and they said they didn't have it in stock even though the website said they did. I drove to one of the stores and found the router myself. Just buy this router, you will be very happy.
UPDATE 12/27/10: BUYER BEWARE
I still like this router but please pay attention to what I am about to say. When i bought my router, the Box indicated that it was a WNDR37AV. Today I had to call NetGear to fix an issue I was experiencing with my readyshare connection. After speaking to the customer service rep, she told me there was a known bug for another minor issue I had noticed. I proceeded to mention to her that I thought the WNDR37AV had all of the bugs from the WNDR3700 corrected. She then informed me that my router is actually a WNDR3700. I told her that the box said it was a WNDR37AV and she said no it is not. After speaking to customer support, they told me that the router must have 37AV written on the bottom of it. They said the box pretty much means nothing. The box is only being used for advertising. I took my router back and had the store i purchased it from open the last 2 routers they had. The boxes say AV Series but both routers had 3700 written on the bottom of them. I kept my router because it's still better than most. I called NetGear back and they told me both the 37AV and 3700 are the same and I had nothing to worry about. I find that hard to believe. If you read the side of the box under "package contents", it actually says that the box may have the WNDR37AV or the WNDR3700. Please open the box and verify that you're buying the 37AV. I think NetGear is trying to get rid of the 3700's and they're being deceptive by saying both routers are the same.
