Customer Review: Think beyond just Receipts - explore other possibilities

I have a lot of software that has been downloaded over the years and emails that contains the registration codes and activation keys. I now use Neat Receipts to scan ALL my software license keys and registration codes so they are safe and secure and in one location should I need to find them to re-install at a later date. I got tired of trying to find that lost email so many times or waiting to hear back from the vendor about getting a new activation code or proving that I owned the software. Now I can catalog based on either type of software or vendor or both and re-print the email or registration if needed.
Scans fast, provides high resolution and since I can output as JPG or PDF if needed it has greatly expedited my reload time should I have hardware/software problems. This would work great with any electronic or warranty/serial numbered items you have in the house/ DVD units, cameras, TV's, etc.

This is a great product. All other reviewers sum up the positives well.
One critical reviewer mentioned that it cannot import PDFs. This is true. However, I quickly found a method of getting PDF files into the software.
1. Print the PDF file using the Microsoft Document Imaging printer driver within Windows (if you don't have it, download from Microsoft).
2. Save the file to your favorite location.
3. When the microsoft document imaging editor comes up, click file|save as
4. Save the file in "TIF" format.
5. Close the mdi file (important, or next step will fail)
6. In NeatReceipts, choose file|import from|digital image|Import As New receipt.
7. Choose the TIF image you previously saved.
If you get an "unexpected error" be sure you followed step 5 above.
Again, great product. Worth the cost, especially at Amazon.

I've had Neat Receipts since version 2.0. The scanner is a dream to carry online with its small size and USB power. I've sat in the airport and scanned receipts so that a report is available as soon as I return home.
There is a small learning curve with the software, but it works great. You can separate a single receipt into several categories, clients, and even folders. Under the "Documents" you can assign tax categories so that everything is tallied for your accountant (or you if you're brave enough).
I've had wonderful tech support both online and in person (kiosks in the airport). And yes, you can use another scanner than the one supplied with the program.
I do not leave the house with my computer without packing the NeatReceipts scanner. It's just too easy to make sure that my receipts are entered so I receive ALL allowed reimbursements.

I have used the Neat Reciepts 2.5 version for over a year on a near daily basis. I travel extensively and although sometimes you may have to edit a vendors name I can't imagine going back to stuffing reciepts in a bag. I find it extremely easy to use and mostly accurate and the business card scanner section is great. I input all my gas reciepts, meal reciepts, hotel reciepts, car repairs & maintenance receipts and it is all there when needed at tax time. I also input warranties on some items and important documents that I may need a copy of for information ie; photo copy your passport and then scan it, if it is lost or stolen its much easier to replace. I have just updated to the 3.0 version and I am looking forward to its new features. I give it a two thumbs up :-)The compact size is great it fits in my laptop bag easily.Customer Review: A Must Have for any Small Business

As a long time user (since 2005), Neat Receipts is invaluable to our small business. Every receipt or document (personal or business) is scanned and stored. I cannot tell you how much this has helped reduce the clutter and paper throughout the house! And finding a receipt to return something to Home Depot or provide to the IRS is quick and easy. We use the export features to Excel, PDF and QuickBooks almost daily and they are just to a name a few of the wonderful features this product has. Without a doubt, Neat Receipts is the BEST tool we have invested in to keep our business up and running smoothly.
