I've had a NeatReceipts machine for awhile, and it has become an office tool I wonder how I lived without for so many years. It's great for tax records, expense reports, all that stuff, but the biggest difference it's made in my life is just GETTING RID OF THE PAPER! I had piles all over my desk for years. Cab receipts, travel receipts, charitable donation receipts, etc. Not just sitting on top of the desk, but in files and folders all over the place. When it came time to do the taxes, or do the accounting, sometimes I could find what I was looking for, sometimes I couldn't. The NeatReceipts changed all that. Now I just scan the piece of paper in, put it in the right file on my computer (or even in a Misc file, because it's easy to search and find later). I back up my computer regularly, so I never worry about losing the important data to back up my financial paperwork. And I've moved from a desk with big file drawers to basically a computer drawer and a couple of shelves.
I upgraded to the new 3.0 NeatReceipts because I figured they've known what they're doing so far, so I tried the new one. My favorite thing about it is the ability to produce pdfs easily. And I can scan in a pdf and edit the text. I was only able to do that previously by taking it to my brother in law and having him scan it and use some utility he bought for his machine. I haven't tried all the new stuff yet because I haven't gone through tax season yet, which is when my NeatReceipts really gets a workout. But the new version is much more searchable - like when I was looking for an Embassy Suites receipt the other day and could search on "Embassy Suites" and find it.
I highly recommend the NeatReceipts, and even more, I recommend enjoying throwing away all that paper.

I read through the reviews on various sites before buying this. I almost didn't based on some bad reviews.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I'm moderately tech savvy and got it up and running in minutes. I've found it easy to use and was impressed by the receipt recognition.
I wonder if the people who didn't like it are more technically advanced then I am and expect it to do handpsprings and make them toast and are unhappy when it doesn't.
People complained it was slow. I don't find it slow at all...and I tend to be the impatient type. I really thought it was going to be painfully slow from the reviews I read. I'm perfectly happy with it's speed. I often do multiple page receipts with no complaints.
Is it 100% accurate. Of course not. Mostly I find that it is on clear receipts. On ones that are faded or wrinkled I have to go in and correct information which takes under a minute. The recognition software I find to be really cool and it does save you time epecially if you use Quick Books as I am.
I can scan in a receipt say from Target and then export the information into Quick Books by selecting one button and it's done. How cool is that?!
Don't buy this expecting not to have to double check your information and not expecting to never have to make corrections. I check over everything to make sure it's correct, even doing that it's faster then typing in each receipt into Quick Books.
So far I can't complain and would suggest it to anyone without hesitation.

I am not someone who needs a scanner in my everyday life. My main focus for buying this was because I use USAA banking. USAA is an online only bank and the only way you can deposit checks with them to scan the check through a browser page on their site.
The problem was is that I never could find a list of mobile scanners that were supported and my first attempt failed miserably for me. So with no little amount of trepidation did I buy this. For all those USAA users, it works! Took a little bit of tinkering to make it work but it did great and my checks are being sent in now.
What I didn't expect was my actual joy with the software though. In no time I found myself copying my important documents (tax returns, etc) into the device for storage. Then I found myself getting 2 year old credit card statements. A little while later I am saving my receipts. It is just so addictive and easy to store my documents electronically and free up physical space (who needs a file cabinet any more!).
My only major issue is that the database is getting rather unwieldy to load. As someone who programs databases I am not sure if it is just the hardware difference or if the programming wasn't indexed or optimized. I have heard 4.0 is faster but I am unsure if it is worth an upgrade when this does everything I want after the initial start-up annoyance.
Either way you will be more than happy with this device.

I purchased this from costco, installed it in about 15 minutes. Program is super easy to run, very intuitive. I am using the product for my small business to do away with all the paper that accumulates. I loved this version so much, I purchased the 4.0 upgrade yesterday and within three hours gave up on the 4.0, uninstalled it and went back to the 3.0 version. The 3.0 version is much easier and faster to use. You can scan multiple pages for one receipt, not so on the 4.0 version. The 4.0 version was cumbersome, not as intuitive and much slower from scan to file. I will happily stay with the 3.0 version. UPDATE I have reinstalled 4.0 and am very happy now! I was using 3.0 and scanning a ton of documents, I was using the smart scan, which was fine, but limited to 50 sheets before you have to file the documents. Since I am scanning in hundreds of pages, I thought I would give 4.0 another try. With the 4.0 Quick Scan I have unlimited scans before I have to file the documents, receipts, etc. I can quickly combine pages into one document and file. It is easy to select the file or create a new file if you need to. One thing I did not like about 4.0 was that you were not able to scan multiple pages from the Receipt tab, you have to use the Quick scan and combine the pages before filing, I guess I now have the hang of it and it is no longer a problem for me. NeatReceipts Professional Mobile Receipt and Document Scanner and Software Combination Version 3.0Two years ago while on a flight I was thumbing through a magazine and saw NeatReceipts. The more I read about it I knew it was just what I needed to scan in my contracts, save as a PDF file and then email them to my clients. I'm a real estate agent and this is perfect to use in my business. After returning home I searched the internet and found it for a reasonable price.Installation was easy. I followed the directions and it was up and ready in just a few minutes. I couldn't wait to try it.. Yes, it worked!!
My husband is self-employed and I get to keep records of all his stuff. It was a pain until I got NeatReceipts and now I don't have to worry about keeping up with all those receipts, I just scan them into the right category and then I can pull them up any time I want to. At the end of the year I printed all the reports and took them to our CPA. It has saved me a lot of time. When an update comes out I install it and it just keeps getting better. Yes, once in a while it will hang up but that is miner compared to what it has done for my life.
