Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Close enough to perfect given its price Summary: 5 Stars
Having just purchased this for less than $300, and looking forward to a $50 rebate, the net cost of less than $250 makes this hands down the best value on the GPS market today. Though not flawless, the 5100 has more high end features than any other GPS in its price range.
Best features:
1) Text to speech (it can read street names) - not as smooth as the feature's execution by Garmin, but I couldn't find another GPS at $250 with the feature.
2) Free traffic reporting - has already saved me time driving around NYC.
3) Reality view - not real-life, but enough to make complex interchanges easier to navigate.
The satellite acquisition times are reasonable (under 3 minutes), and the volume plenty loud. Routing is handled well, and reroutes are quick and smooth.
Overall, I'd buy this again.
Customer Review: Navigon 5100 - solid product Summary: 5 Stars
So far I really like the new Navigon system. I was a little wary of buying from an unestablished company, yet this is a great product. The interface is easy to use and intuitive. The mount is steady, sticks to the window well, and puts the device easily within sight and reach. The lane assist and real-life view are helpful in unfamiliar settings. Free traffic and construction updates are helpful in big cities as well. One downside is that speaker is on backside and announces towards the window, so if the radio is on its a little hard to hear. Not a big deal though, if you really need the directions you can turn the radio down. Only other downside is that it takes a minute or two to find the satellite, but I'm not sure if this is unique to this product or common to all GPS units.
Customer Review: Second Hand Review-Bought as a gift Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife since she spends over half of her work week traveling, and i've heard nothing but great things about this GPS system. Lately she's expressed how helpful the lane change and traffic features have been since she travels through los angeles, las vegas, and norther Arizona so to say the least this has been wonderful for the both of us. The only negatives that she has expressed to me is that she can't physically turn off the unit (only some sleep mode), and the provided mount isn't that reliable. The mount isn't that big of a concern since you can easily go out and buy one that suits your needs for under 20 dollars which is what i had to do for her.
In the end i would highly recommend this GPS unit for yourself and your loved ones.
Customer Review: What a great product! Summary: 5 Stars
This GPS is fantastic. Accuracy is an understatement. I even used it in Sumner National Forest. It clearly showed FS roads and unmarked roads. The voice commands were very helpful, not just saying to turn right, but to "turn right onto W. Oak St", etc. The display is a little small and the key take some getting used to. The POI were helpful, but I'd like to see more. The unique "Reality View" sets this unit apart and the free traffic info for life is a big plus. After looking at Garmin Magellan and Mio in stores, this is clearly a great choice. Other great features are the speed alerts on the interstate, your current speed, altitude and day/nite mode. The mounting bracket will withstand a nuclear blast. Watch for sales on this unit and you will not be disappointed.
