Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Saw this on Home Shopping Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this one on TV where they nicely explained all the features and benefits and I said "WOW" it can do all that. Well, I got one now and upgraded from my previous Pocket Loox because of all the new convenience features. I also wanted to have a bigger screen but still compact. The menus are pretty much the same and I got used to those. This one is just more advanced now. And yes it can do all that what they claim on TV. It's easy to use, got me to the places I wanted sofar without a glitch. You can get addicted to this device and I showed it to a couple of my friends already. The mount is a little big but nicely fits on my windshield and is in close reach. I'm mostly impressed by all the convenience features like telling me street names, telling me what lanes to pick on the highway. This reality view feature is extremely useful and pops up right when you need it in difficult situations and shows you real signs and arrows where to go. The traffic service is FREE. I love the design with its sleek finish. The Zagat guide that is included is helpful since you get some additional information on the restaurants and are not just going to the next Burger joint all the time. I saw Navigon has a bigger one with a larger screen and Bluetooth, of course that one looks nice as well but costs more, too. I like this one and highly recommend it.
Customer Review: 5100 Opinion Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the 5100 for about two weeks now. Also tried the 7100. After using both, the 5100 serves our needs better. Both have excellent maps, visually second to none (and I've looked at all brands - my mother has a garmin). Route accuracy and calculation speed is close to Garmin. On inner cities, the unit can make mistakes, but they all do. Reality view is great, pronunications are ok. The turning reminders are really nice - similar to other brands, but add a final reminder just as the turn occurs. Very nice.
Interface seems much quicker than the 7100. We didn't find the need for bluetooth or the larger screen. The 5100 seemed much faster. All I can figure is it is a newer revision of software, but not positive.
What could be better? Volume could be louder, and it would be nice to simpify the map screen with less information (even with some elements removed it is cluttered on the bottom). While the maps are much nicer, the garmins have an easier to read display of distance and time remaining.
All in all a very nice unit for the price. Or other finalist was the Garmin 260 but as noted gave it to my mother and kept this one for us!
Customer Review: Navigon is great Summary: 5 Stars
The Navigon 5100 is the perfect GPS for my family. I have had one for 2 years and love it, and I just got one for my parents for Christmas. There are tons of points of interest already loaded which is great for finding new places while driving around. When difficult intersections or roads are encountered, the Navigon not only tells you what you should do, but also shows you which lane to be in with a picture. The ease of entering addresses and searching for places is great. I also like that I can switch the view from portrait to landscape to be able to see a wider or longer view of the area. The battery does not hold a charge for more than an hour at full brightness, but if you use it in a car, you just plug it in the lighter. There is a feature that allows you to save your current location which is great for parking downtown and shopping, then finding the shortest route back to your car because the GPS can give walking or driving directions. The Navigon does like to read certain abreviations which can make you laugh when you are told to go to the "A-T-L" airport instead of Atlanta or A.T.L. airport.
Customer Review: Navigon 5100 Summary: 5 Stars
You will not find a better GPS for the price... trust me I tried. The Reality View is a priceless option when you are in congested areas that give you little time to react and/or try to figure out exactly what exit to take. The FREE traffic updates also worked very nice on my last trip to Long Island. I've also used the Zaget survey feature to locate restaurants... again it worked very well. Accuracy on local roads as well as long distance trips have proven to be very accurate.
There are some problems with this GPS; the two biggest ones are the lack Home Depot, Lowes & other "Big Box" stores... there is every restaurant, gas station & parking places you could ever ask for. I hope they update the POI's & for this reason I wasn't too worried that some were missing. I would also like to see a higher peak volume for noisy vehicles. These two shortcomings are overshadowed by the countless other features. I would recommend this GPS to anyone. BTW I have used other brands (Garmin being my other top rated) but if you compare features you will find that you need to pay al least twice as much!
Customer Review: Navigation Elation Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased a Navigon unit for myself and absolutely loved it. I found it to be much more accurate than Mapquest and since you receive voice instructions in addition to a realtime map it is extremely easy to follow the directions. My sister asked to borrow my unit because she was traveling out of state and wanted to try it out. She said she had always wanted a navigation unit because of the frequent travel she does in her car, but her husband was extrememly skeptical about their accuracy. My sister fell in love with my Navigon and borrowed it several times. Finally, on a trip with her husband, he was able to see the unit in action and counldn't believe that the Navigon was so accurate right down to the landmarks and restaurants it point out. They loved it so much that I bought them this one for Christmas (so I could get mine back). I appreciate the updates that keep the unit timely and even in rather rural areas the Navigon has gotten me to the door every time. It's a great navigation system as well as phenomenal source of information for Zagat rates hotels, restuarants and area attractions.
