Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Motorola Signal Booster 484095-001-00 Bi-Directional RF Amplifier

Customer Review: Great Signal Booster
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this product based on all the positive reviews. I have been using it for a couple of months and I agree with the other positive comments. I was using a signal booster from Radio Shack for several years but it died. It had done an okay job but when I replaced it with the Motorola my HDTV picture was clearer and sharper. Installation took only a few minutes and was just a matter of connecting the input and output cables to the signal booster unit and connecting a supplied cable to the ac plug unit. This baby does a five star job. Googling found lots of signal boosters out there in a wide price range, many from names I have never heard of, and I like the warm feeling of buying a brand name product like Motorola. I have several TVs connected by those necessary darn splitters and some long cable runs and have used signal boosters for years. I'm a real believer in them because I can see that they make a difference for my situation. If you are having problems with TV picture reception and quality you might want to give the Motorola signal booster a try.

Customer Review: Works great, easy to install

This booster works so well that it prompted me to write my first review on Amazon to help others who are having problems with weak or no signals. I recently purchased a Samsung 19" 720p LCD HDTV (great picture quality by the way) for the kitchen. In addition, I have a non-HDTV set in the living room and another in the bedroom. When the TV in the living room was on, I'd be unable to watch the HD-broadcast channels on my Samsung. After searching on the Internet, I found others who had a similar problem. Suggestions from the AVSForum (www.avsforum.com)led me to this Motorola drop amp. Further reading of the positive and enthusiastic reviews on Amazon gave me the confidence to buy this booster.
When it arrived, I read the instructions, installed it as directed, and plugged in the booster. Now I can see the HD-broadcast channels on my Samsung while the living room TV is on. In fact, the picture quality of my bedroom TV has improved. My advice is to make sure that the cable line from outside your house is plugged directly into the booster.

Customer Review: Does a great job

I had been using a radio shack splitter and amplifier for years (the
1-to-4 Bidirectional Cable-TV Amplifier). It did a good job, but recently began to fail after many years of service.

I replaced it with the Motorola signal booster. However, the signal booster is not a splitter, so I also added a Monster Cable TGHZ-4RF 2 Gigahertz 4-Way Low-Loss RF Splitter for TV & Satellite.

The Motorola signal booster made reception much better right away. (Note: the Motorola signal booster has higher amplification than the Radio Shack amplifier.) When the signal booster was coupled with the Monster Cable splitter, reception was great - better than it had ever been. I now receive channels clearly that were always fuzzy with horizontal or vertical bands in the past.

Customer Review: For TV Use Only

Cable guys have confirmed my exact same experience with this booster - it is fantastic for boosting a weak, but clean cable TV signal, but it should not be used for internet or digital voice modems. The booster will actually over-amplify the internet/voice modems (beyond the modem specs) and/or induce too much noise into the line, causing the modems to disconnect periodically.

The best installation method is to first split the cable line coming into your house. One line should go direct to the internet modem and the second line should go to this booster. Insert a 4 way splitter after the modem (for 4 TVs) and connect accordingly. If you also have digital voice, split the line 3 ways coming into the house. The low loss line (3.5db) should ALWAYS go directly to the internet modem. The other two 7db lines should go 1) directly to the digital voice modem, and 2) directly to the Motorola booster. Insert a splitter after the booster for the number of TVs accordingly.

Fantastic product when used properly.

Customer Review: It just works.

I had just switched my internet from DSL to cable. The speed I was getting was as high as I was supposed to get, but I was having problems staying online. My connection would be good for a couple hours, then would drop out for no apparent reason. I'd have to unplug the modem for a couple minutes, then power it back up to get the connection back. When the connection was up, my downstream power level would hover in the -14dB to -12dB range. Some sources said it should never be below -15dB, others said -10dB, so however you looked at it, my levels were too low. I installed this booster where the cable enters my house (before any splitters), and now my signal stays in the 0dB to +2dB range, and my connection hasn't dropped out for 2 days. As far as TV signals, my cable channels seem slightly clearer, but I never had any problems with the channels before, so that might just be in my head. But, if you need to boost a weak modem signal, this thing is perfect! It also comes with 2 fairly good quality 6' cables, so this was well worth $40.
