Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Motorola Signal Booster 484095-001-00 Bi-Directional RF AmplifierCustomer Review: Truth about signal booster Summary: 5 Stars
As for the people writing the other reviews on this product, you should not speak if you know nothing about Broadband. First of all, this booster will NOT increase your docsis cable modem speeds, no matter what you hear. This amplifier, installed correctly (at the entry point of your home) will boost your forward signal by +15db (allowing return signals to pass). Most cable modem operating level ranges are +15 to -15, so if your within that range on your cable modems operating frequency (for example 705mhz) there is no need for a booster. If you are on the treshhold of signal, like -17db, then this amp will be beneficial to you. Your GUI on your cable modem will give you this reading (http://192.168.100.1 for example). As for your cable reception, and amplifier can be helpful if you have multiple TV's, to make up for the loss that your splitters create. But again, this amp MUST be installed @ your cables entry point to your home. If you have a bad connection though, you will only amplify noise. So your outside drop connection from the pole must be good for an amp to work properly. In conclusion, your modem downloads a config file from your ISP which tells that modem what speeds to run at, and your ISP's router capacities determine what kind of speeds you get. So this amplifier will NOT boost speeds :-)
Customer Review: Great for Over the Air Antenna Reception! Summary: 5 Stars
Most of these reviews focus on digital cable (which is understandable) but this amplifier also works wonders for over the air digital TV as well.
I am close to the city, but on the side of a hill in a townhouse with other townhouses right in the direction the signals come from. This is about as bad of a location as you could get for over the air reception. I was forced to mount an exterior antenna on my deck (since I have no side of the house that faces south since I'm in a middle townhouse). Prior to getting this amplifier I had a Radioshack +10db variable amp that did an acceptable job. When I replaced it with this wow what a difference. I now receive all over the local digital stations and every one but one is crystal clear all the time. The one that is spotty is 24 miles away and my area is a known trouble area for this channel (WTAE Pittsburgh). Antenna web basically said that no matter what antenna I had I wouldn't get this channel, period.
So, I give it five stars! The one thing to be aware of with digital is that if your signal quality is crap to start with then the amplifier won't make a hill of beans of difference. I found I had to mount my antenna higher on my deck that I originally had to get a number of more channels.
Customer Review: Works good on Comcast eMTA Summary: 5 Stars
I got this to see about not re-running cable from the pedestal feed (like <10 ft away) up the wall and into the attic (1 story townhouse). I was getting some problems out of my MTA (Comcast triple play, the DOCSIS 2.0/telephone box) that sometimes I would loose LINK to the node. So far this is working ok but as usual Comcast says the problem is in my house but some I have spoken to find others on the node disconnected. So that means their NMD (network maintenance department) needs to look at the repeater. Well here in Miami the telephone people can not send a ticket to NMD, first the "technician" must come out. Done that 2 times in 2 weeks. I know the problem is further up the line and not from the pedestal to in my house. So this boost the signal both ways and my one old analog tv is not getting any "snow" on the higher channels. All my other tv's are flat screen digital tuners and the signal on one was like 4 out of 5 bars but now it's 5. So I hope this helps my own situation and if anyone else get's anything from the review that's good too. All I can say is don't always go by what Comcast says is the problem, I mean if they knew for 100% sure what the problem is, they would be running the company.
Customer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
I'll Keep this short. I have comcast and have had a ridiculous amount of problems keeping On Demand working without glitches.I was having to start and stop on demand several times, just to get a program to run and even then they would run glitchy and sometimes drop out altogether.
After numerous calls to Comcast, who never seemed to care, I took matters into my own hands and bought this device.
I installed this thing right before the line comes into the cable modem. I actually split it off with one cable going unfiltered into the cable modem and the other going into this device, and then out into another splitter, sending it off into three televisions.
Since i set it up, I have not had one problem with glitches or on demand failures. The menu and guide work flawlessly and ridiculously quick on all the televisions now and I haven't had to think about the problem since.
Well not every problem is going to be one of signal strength... this device seems to be excellent at boosting the signal and eliminating all of the issues I was having prior to its installation.
Accordingly, I would highly recommend it for similar applications.
Customer Review: It worked for me... Summary: 5 Stars
My TiVo was having difficulty picking certain stations because I had split my cable three times (two tv's and one computer) and then twice more at the TV so I can watch TV and record TiVo and the same time. All this splitting caused a dramatic loss in signal by the time it reached TiVo. Annoyed, I replaced all the splitters with the "high-end" Monster 2ghz splitters. The splitters did not measurably improve my signal, the missing channels did not appear on TiVo, nor did any channel appear better than before. However, I am using a TV's from the 90's with no HD so I'm not sure if that really would have improved the clarity anyway, but I thought it worth a try. Next I installed the Motorola Broadband drop amp (at the source cable, prior to the three-way split mentioned above) and presto, all those channels that previously were too weak for TiVo to pick up now were coming through great. I can't say for certain if it has improved my internet connection because I never had a problem before but the internet was working great after the installation. Regardless the problem was with the TV and now the TV signal has greatly improved.
