I was originally using a cheap single outlet surge protector I got from a local electronics store. When I decided I needed something with more outlets (for the laptop and a portable hard drive) I did a Google search and found this. I loved the way it was designed to be compact and portable. The short power cable simply wraps around the outlets and plugs into one of them. Perfect to carry around in my laptop backpack. A better solution than carrying around a small power strip (which is what a friend does). It only cost about $15 when I bought it from Amazon, which is a fair price for something like this from Monster.Customer Review: Perfect for travel

I bought this for my trip to South Africa. It was great to be able to use one adapter and have a power strip so we could charge our camera batteries, cell phone and net book at the same time. This power strip allowed me to only purchase one adapter. I also noted that of the three hotels we stayed in, only the Westin had multiple outlets available for an adapter. It was much easier to charge all out electronics at once and not have to wake up in the middle of the night and change chargers. This item impressed my travel partner, who has over 2 million air miles, so that is an endorsement from a road warrior.Customer Review: Excellent for What it is!

Monster has created an excellent power strip here. You just need to know what it was designed for. It's designed to be an extremely portable powerstrip with a short cord.
I'm currently studying for my GMAT exams right now, so I carry this Monster OTG400 in my backpack's side pocket and it's so small and light, you would never know it's there. I bring it out when I'm at the library or local cafe and there are a limited number of outlets. It has come in handy so many times, I've lost count. If you think you're in a similar situation as I am, this is a must-have in your laptop bag.

I've been looking for a notebook power adapter like this for months. The plug is on a sturdy cord which places the power strip body several inches away from the wall. No more single unit power strips which can hide outlets because they have to be plugged into the wall sideways.
There are 4 available 120v 3-prong outlets, no phone or co-ax outlets. And when stored, the power cord wraps around the length of the power strip and plugs into one of the outlets. It has a trip reset button.
Small, neat, easy to carry and use. Anyone with a laptop would definitely love this!

When it comes to packing and considering space and weight, I am a bit zealous. I wanted a 'powerstip' that I could throw in my computer bag and always have with me. It seems that whenever you get to a client site or in a hotel, there are never enough outlets.
The problem was solved with this little beauty. With it's small form factor, it easily fits into any computer bag and does not take up excess space. If someone sees me pull it out, they are always curious about how a 'powerstip' could be so small. This was so worth the money. I can't believe I didn't do this sooner.
