I can't comment on this unit as a surge protector yet. But man, oh, man! I can hear a dramatic improvement in the sound quality. I own an old NAD power amp, a Rotel pre-amp and have Linn speakers. I sold stero equipment for years and used to think investments in cable, power conditioners, and such were all tremendous wastes of money. I have a home recording studio and was having some trouble with equipment humm and interference. So I purchased the Monster Power strip on the recommendation of a friend. I hooked up a cassette deck, a Digital Audio Tape deck, my computer, audio interface, mic pre-amp, and the stereo equipment mentioned above...and was stunned by the results. Even though there are four hookups dedicated to audio, and four dedicated to video - it works fine for audio. My next purchase will be one of the pro units for audio only. Then this unit will get moved to my home entertainment unit where it belongs.
The sound coming from my equipment is measurably and noticeably cleaner, warmer, and richer. Cleaner highs, deeper lows, and more definition to the whole sound stage. For less than a hundred bucks, it's like I just purchased 8 new much more expensive components.

Original Power Bar was an HTS 2000 MKII, 12 outlet, 2775 Joules purchased from Amazon 2 years ago. We must have taken a power surge, because my LCD TV cut off, and there was a slight burning electronic smell from the HTS 2000. Half of the outlets and LCD voltage and amperage indicator lights were still operational. Called Monster, first question, when did you purchase. Second question, was any equipment damaged. Nothing was damaged, and the unit did what it was supposed to do. Monster informed me that since the model I purchased was no longer made, but was a 12 outlet bar, would I mind having TWO HTS 1000 MKIII, 8 outlet bars. NO PROBLEM! They basically upgraded me for free from one bar that was 2775 Joules to TWO bars that are rated for 6125 Joules. The 2775 Joule bar worked great so I'm extra confident with 6125 Joules. I paid for shipping of the old damaged bar, and within about 5 business days of getting back the old bar, they shipped me out the 2 new bars no cost. I've wondered about the premium cost of their products, but the stuff works, and they actually stand behind them.Customer Review: So Far So Good

I received the Monster power bar last Friday and installed it today. I have read all the Pro's and Con's written about this power bar and my main concern was the mentioned problem of the unit recycling on it's own, and resetting. I did some homework on this problem and found that a very low percentage in relation to how many were sold were faulty. I have a lot of confidence in Monster products as their products have saved 3 HD Flat screen tv's for me already and I know if I should encounter a problem Monster Customer service and support will help.
What I did notice was the finish was slightly scratched, the packageing seemed sealed so I am sure I received a new one from Amazon..
Well like I said so far it's doing a great job, and produced a very sharp picture on my 46" Samsung tv, the picture was great before I added this bar with Stage 2 cleaner, but there is a visable improvement wih this power bar.
So far all is working well..

My family purchased one of these several years ago. It seemed quite expensive at the time, but given the new tv and various home theater items we were buying simultaneously, we thought the Monster brand would be worth it.
A month or so ago, a severe storm came through and knocked the power out in our area. The power surge destroyed our smoke detectors (old ones still connected to home with battery back-up). Some other less expensive surge protectors in the house were totaled but did their jobs as well. The Monster Power Center was totaled but saved every piece of equipment connected. In comparison, our neighbor had a lesser surge protector product and lost their brand new LCD big-screen to the surge and spent hours on the phone trying to claim warranties.
While we should have unplugged everything vital in anticipation of the storm, the security this product brought to the expensive equipment was well worth the price. I now have a replacement HTS 1000 in place and have confidence it will work again when necessary.

I have two Monster surge protectors. Both are about 2-4 years old and are the 8 outlet models which were the high end at the time I purchased them. I have a background in electronics so for those who think all surge protectors are created equal you are wrong. What you do not see is the important part of this type of product. They seem over priced but like in so many cases you get what you pay for. If you have $2000 to $5000 worth of electronics hooked up to a surge protector you want the best you can afford. Monster is like the Cadillac of surge protectors. I am in need of another protector for another room and am going to buy another Monster as I feel comfortable that I have perhaps the best available protector for the general public. The price on Amazon today is about as good as it gets to buy a new protector where you can trust the seller.
Many years ago I purchased a Monster from ebay as the price was very low. Big mistake. It failed promptly and I had no recourse.
