Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Monster HDMI-400 400 Series HDTV HDMI Cable (2 meters)Customer Review: Complete Waste Of Money Ripoff-Total Scam!! Zero Stars!! Summary: 1 Stars
Please! Please! Please! Don't be a total "Dumas" and believe the in-store Sales-Hole hyping these over-priced, do nothing extra cables!! These shameless in-store thieves know that you'll be spending some serious coin on your new flat-panel, so whats another hundred+ for some bogus cable if you think you'll be getting a better picture?? NOT!! It's common knowledge by those in-the-know, that measureable lab tests using an oscilloscope show ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE in signal, picture or audio quality between these cables and the ten buck or less generic brand cables on Amazon.com, [...] etc. This was both professionally measured as well as being demonstrated by an engineer on a recent expose' on FOX13 News in Tampa, FL. Still not sure?? Consumer Reports Magazine also recently conducted their own extensive, independent lab tests on these cables and came to the exact same conclusion: No difference what-so-fricken-ever; even at a full 1080p HD resolution and to NOT waste your money on them!! If you go to their website and you are a member, just search for their report and you can see the report for yourself. Keep in mind that all this cable has to do is transfer data only; (not high power, like a loud speaker) so any reasonably good conductor would work just fine just to transmit a data signal - regardless of the resolution. So, either it works or doesn't work at all - there is NO middle ground!! Furthermore, if the cable really made that much of a difference, don't you think that the Manufacturer would either include the cable in the box or mention that in the set-up instructions?? I have tried several brands of HDMI cables, doing brand-blind tests and could never see or hear any difference of any kind!! EVER!! Don't be a total "Dumas" and fall for the BS!! I hope this clears up any myths regarding so called "high end" cables. Don't believe me??? Humor me; and try it yourself!! You'll be glad you did... use the money you save to buy some nice Blu-Ray movies instead!! Bob-OH! OUT!!!
Customer Review: HDMI is lossless. There is no "better cable". Summary: 1 Stars
Look, I hope you're reading this before you pull the trigger on buying this overpriced piece of junk. HDMI is a lossless digital media interface; in other words, HDMI output either works or it doesn't. Paying more does NOTHING, as ALL HDMI cables perform the same. I have literally seen people in electronics stores considering a wall of HDMI cables, and when I tell them the $10 'knockoff' cable on the end works just as well as the MONSTER BRAND SUPER-DE-DUPER CABLE EXTREME PERFORMANCE one that costs $50, they look at me funny until I explain the actual technological jargon behind it. One person actually had me give them my email address, they bought both the whatever-brand version and the Monster version, and later sent me a message thanking me, and that they noticed no difference between the two and returned the Monster cable.
So the long story short is, don't pay extra when it comes to HDMI. As one of the other most recent reviewers said, people are starting to become more familiar with HDMI technology and know more about it, so the poor souls who waste money on this product are fewer and farther between, but if I can help one less person be swindled, I've done my job.
Customer Review: Total rip off Summary: 1 Stars
Do not buy this or any basic cable from 'designer' labels, it's stupid. Buy an Amazon, Walmart or store brand it works just as good.
As a side not: Given the product quality and their actions, looks like the company has more lawyers than engineers; they are trying to bankrupt small businesses that use an English word to name their businesses. From WSJ:
"Over the years, it has gone after purveyors of monster-branded auto transmissions, slot machines, glue, carpet-cleaning machines and an energy drink, as well as a woman who sells "Junk Food Monster" kids' T-shirts that promote good eating habits. It sued Monster.com over the job-hunting Web site's name and Walt Disney Co. over products tied to the film "Monsters Inc." It opposed the Boston Red Sox trademark applications for seats and hot dogs named for the Green Monster, the legendary left-field wall in Fenway Park. All in all, Monster Cable says it has fought about 190 monster battles at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and filed around 30 monster lawsuits in federal courts."
The price markup might be for their lawyers to sue everyone.
Customer Review: Digital signals don't "vary" Summary: 1 Stars
Expensive cables for a digital signal are the worst sort of scam, and people who spend extra money for them are ignorant of the technology. For analog signals, cable-quality can vary your reception-quality (though not as much as people think). But digital signals transmit data in "1s" and "0s." The "1s" and "0s" either get through, or they don't. If they do get through, you have a picture (or sound). If they don't get through, you DO NOT. With digital (unlike analog), you never have to WONDER whether you could, maybe, if only you'd spent a little bit more money, be getting a better result. If you see a picture, you know the "1s" and "0s" got through. If you see NO PICTURE, then your connection is loose, or your dog chewed through the line, or you have a bad cable. There is no in-between. The beauty of HDMI, the beauty if digital, is that you no longer have to wonder. How long will companies like Monster be able to keep this secret :)
Customer Review: Worthless scam Summary: 1 Stars
One MIGHT argue that cable quality could affect a digital audio signal due to clock timing issues, but for video as long as the signal gets there without losing bits, all adequate cables are the same. (And I think most receivers reclock the digital audio, anyway.) As long as the cables provide enough shielding to avoid actual data loss, interference has no effect on a digital signal.
I really can't believe that fooling and lying to people has become a valid business model in this country. If you buy these cables you are being taken, plain and simple, by a company that thinks providing you with an illusion of quality is more profitable than providing you with real value. Until people become more skeptical, they are right.
