Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Monster Cable PGL400 CVAA-10 GameLinkCustomer Review: Frustrating Problem Summary: 3 StarsI get the feeling by reading the other reviews that I may have simply gotten a bum cable. I spent close to $60 on this, rather than the much less expensive - and also less sturdy-looking - Sony component cable. I bought it believing I was getting the best - as one reviewer noted the shielding on this cable ought to be incredible, as the cable is very thick.
The problem I've been having since I got it is that the the color spectrum would fade in and out during use - that is the reds would turn a deep brown, the yellows to white, and the blues to grey. At first I thought it was the component port on my Sony XBR TV, or worse, maybe the way the signal was processed by the TV itself, or still perhaps the PS2. Everything worked fine hooking up with the lousy composite cable (although on a 60" XBR, you can really tell the difference!). Long story short, I tried switching out PS2's and component ports then I tried switching my DVD player to the port used for the PS2 - it worked flawlessly. I didn't have another HD TV with component jacks to test the cable in. So it was down to the cable or the signal processing on the TV end. The cheaper and easier test was to simply get the standard Sony component cable and try that first. So I did and it now works perfectly and I can play without the insane color shifting!
I understand a little about electronics and signals, and all I can think was that in some way my cable was defective and improperly shielded. I gave this cable 3 stars on the merits of the other reviews, understanding that it may be an isolated incident. I would just think that for the crazy prices we pay for premium cables these days, their quality department would look them over better before they go out the door.
Customer Review: EXCELLENT!!! Summary: 5 StarsWith this item your games and movies for the PS2 will look awesome, this is a must have item if you are a PS2 lover!!!
Customer Review: Better than anything SONY could ever offer!!! Summary: 5 StarsOver the years, both the PS1 and PS2 came with the SAME EXACT set of crappy stock AV cables included in the box; and that's mighty tired to say the least.
Being the manufacturer of the TOP-SELLING videogame console, it appears that SONY was never really considerate of their customers by offering them with such cheaply-made cables.
I guess they probaly don't care if you use them or not because its really no loss to them... You bought the system already.
Running demos at the E3 or CES with those cables was just plain stupid, as they do not allow for the TRUE graphical pontential of the PS2 hardware and its games.
The cheap tin-plated contacts, unrefined wiring materials, and almost non-existent sheilding on the SONY cables are strictly run-of-the-mill for the most part.
Blurry-ass graphics, bleeding colors, and muffled sound can only result in a very UNIMPRESSIVE gaming experience at best.
Another thing that I can't believe about those stock cables is that they can cost as much as $20-$25 to replace if broken.
For roughly around that price range, I bet you can get some pretty good 3rd-party cables which are still better than SONY's.
I just hope that by the time PS3 rolls around, they won't hook us up with the same set of crappy stock cables that most gamers have suffered with for so many years...
Besides, who the hell would wanna put up with blurry-ass graphics ever again?
The price of these Monster component cables may be slightly expensive, but it's not totally crazy.
It all really depends on what kinda measures you're willing to take up for your personal gaming pleasure.
For the most part, these cables certainly DO provide a SERIOUS upgrade to the overall picture and sound quality of your PS2 games, and that you'll NEVER wanna go back to the SONY cables ever again after using them.
So if you want the BEST, this is it!
Customer Review: I Got This For A Good Deal of $1.03 off of ebay! Summary: 5 StarsI read some of the reviews about this component cable from the other Monster Cable GL400 for PS2 (the one without the audio cable) and bought this one cause I didn't want to have to invest in a seperate audio cable. I also look to ebay first cause there was no way I was about to pay $60.00 for only a video cable, that's ludacris. Found this on ebay bidding at $.98 cents waited til the time went down and out bid a bidder and got it for just $1.03 + $5.00 shipping. Arrived in two days from UPS, hooked it up, at first it wasn't getting good picture I thought I had bought a bad cable but just like some of the comments that was mentioned about this cable, the connector is a bit loose when plugged into the back of the AV port of the PS2, but it was nothing that a little bread twist tie couldn't fix. Rapped the tie around the monster cable and power cord on the PS2 :-D The picture is really crisp and clear with this cable, it probably would look 10x as better if I had the progressive scan model PS2 so maybe I will get that soon.
Customer Review: Worth Every Penny Summary: 5 StarsLike other reviewers I was skeptical before purchasing this product. However, my disappointment with the output quality of the standard composite PS2 cable overwhelmed both my reluctance to spend $60 and the taunting of my XBox owning friends. I considered relaying my experiences in Haiku, but have decided on a before/after list of sorts.
-Before-
1. The fine print on every game I own was blurry and impossible to read. There is nothing worse than running around Los Santos trying to gank Ballas without knowing how many bullets you have.
2. Using the composite cable colors were somewhat muted and the distinction between color boundaries was rather fuzzy.
-After-
1. I now know exactly how many bullets I have at all times while terrorizing Los Santos. I can also read the fine print on loading screens (sweet).
2. The component cables make colors more vibrant and the image is extremely crisp in comparison.
Being able to read fine print is almost worth the $60 by itself, but the added bonus of sharper, more distinct images, colors, etc. is nearly more than I can bear. I have not tested the Sony component cable and it is probably comparable, but the Monster cable gives you an extra two feet if I'm not mistaken. This can be crucial for optimizing the viewing distance between you and that widescreen behemoth in your living room.
