Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Monster Cable GCGL300 SV-10 GameCube S-Video A/V Cable (10 Feet)Customer Review: Best For Gamecube Summary: 5 Stars Considering Component cables for GC are not sold anymore. These are the best cables for your gamecube. The Graphics look noticeably better then composite on a HDTV. Sound is also vastly improved, also very noticeable.
Great product, and worth it if you have an HDTV.
Thumbs up :]
Customer Review: Not only for the Gamecube...compatible with Nintendo 64 Summary: 4 StarsI recently bought this S-video cable more out of a desire to enhance the visual quality of my older Nintendo 64 rather than having anything to do with my Nintendo Gamecube. I happen to own a high definition TV and could easily purchase high def component cables for progressive scan compatable Gamecube titles. This review was written with Nintendo 64 owners in mind, who are spoiled by next generation picture clarity and cannot bare to suffer for blurry colors, and blocky or choppy environments. I have to say that it is difficult to find a set of cables which support the Nintendo 64 and alter the quality of the overall picture in any way that will make a spectacular difference. Buying high def component cables tailor made for Gamecube might seem reasonable enough considering that most of the cables on the market that fit Gamecube also fit the Nintendo 64. But the end results are negligable when you consider the cost of those cords, then compare them to a set of these video-S monster cables. The difference is minimal at best. From what I have seen, these monster cables cost less than high def component cables yet offer an equaled quality or even better. The Nintendo 64 hardware and or software really don't support high definiton anyways. You CAN however improve the color and texture quality of your Nintendo 64 in two ways.
1) buy these monster cables for Gamecube. They are relatively cheap, and are more reliable with most television models than some 3rd party cables. They are a lengthy 10 feet and the cords are very thick and durable. They are quality I assure you.
2)Make sure to purchase a Nintendo 64 expansion pak. The effectiveness of the cords alone will only carry so far, the Nintendo 64 hardware is partially to blame for it's lackluster visual details.
...So buy the expansion pak and these cords and you will certainly view the difference.
Customer Review: YES, BUY THIS!!! Summary: 5 StarsI was very skeptic about purchasing these video cables. I read about it all over the internet and even read some reviews that were at least remotely related to the monster brand which was said to be one of the finest A/V cable manufacturers. Most of my concerns came from reading how frustrating it could be to plug the cord to the TV jacks and of course, how big of an improvement the S-Video mode would achieve on my 43 inch -non HD- TV I planned to use these on. I have a rear projection set and the definition I got by using composite cables was so-so.
After much thought I decided to go with these, inspite its steep price ($35+7 shipping) and the before-mentioned issues. I attempted to plug them to the TV jacks. They fit nicely into the console (both N64 and GC) and so did the S-Video end but the audio plugs would not fit. I wasn't going to risk the integrity of my hard earned, costly TV so I didn't push them in too hard and pulled them out instead. At that point a very simple thought hit me: Why don't some people use their brain once for a change?? Just take some metallic scissors or any resilient long-nose tool or eating utensil and push the contact borders out a little bit so they'll fit the audio jacks. That's all! The cables will not be damaged because of this unless you're not careful and apply super human strenght on'em. The contacts are allegedly made of gold. What's better than that? This took me 2 minutes and can save you tons of grief.
On to the graphics: after careful examining and going back and forth between the S-Video input and the composite input I realized that if I had to go from one to the other so often was because the difference is small. I expected total awesomeness! That said, there is difference. Colors are more vibrant and the jagged edges are less noticeable. Things looked a bit clearer, specially when you move close to them and more details jump into sight that you may not have seen in your game before; you suddenly realize they were there, unnoticed.
This product did indeed improve the picture of my games, however, the component cables made by sony for its PS2 make the picture better. I can't help but wonder how good they'd make my GC look. I couldn't get these because they're no longer manufactured and my GC is one of those newer models that don't have the multi out output to connect component to. My TV has a 480i mode I could have used with those but Monster S-Video was the best I could do for my console graphics-wise. If you have this set up too, go with it and purchase this product without hesitation. You won't regret it. I don't.
Customer Review: Great for more than just Gamecube! Summary: 5 StarsI know that if you are looking into getting these cables, you are mostly likely just interested in using them for Gamecube. BUT, were you aware that these cables are fully functional with N64 as well as SuperNES? Up until the Wii, Nintendo never change the A/V connector on the back of there systems. (Except NES, it used mono standard RCA style A/V output) I am using these cables not for my Gamecube, but for my N64 nd SuperNES, and it looks GREAT. Well, as great as old school systems can look, you'd be amazed what the old cable antena connection signal hid, it almost blurred it into looking better, lol. What I am saying is if you are serious old school gamer and a videophile, your going to want to consider these cables.
Customer Review: If you can't buy a Component Cable, this it's a good option... Summary: 4 StarsIf you don't want to pay about 80 bucks (or more) for one of the dozen of Component Video Cable available in market then this would be your better second option. Of course, if you can get a component cable for GameCube, give thanks to the Lord and use it, but if you are one of the unlucky, like all of us, who had to buy an alternative, you won't be disappointed ... too much.
