Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light (Black, Kindle Version)Customer Review: Great little light Summary: 5 Stars
This has turned out to be a great little light. It's pretty bright for an LED light with fresh batteries. I was actually surprised at how long the batteries last considering how bright it is.
While this does work very well on my Kindle, I found myself using it for other things more and more. I have used it clipped to the back of our entertainment center to hook up the components. We have used it in our house as a night light. It goes for several nights on one set of batteries. I have used it for all sorts of things where one would use a clip or a stand light with a flexible neck.
Other people have said that the light has a problem with glare on the Kindle screen. This is true, but it is actually a function of the Kindle surface, and not the light. The other lights I tried do the same thing. It is easy enough to just move the light up higher to solve that problem.
We like this light so much that my wife and I both have one on the head of the bed. It's the perfect light when you need to go around late at night without waking the whole house up.
It actually works well on those primitive paper based books, but better for hardbound than paperback. Of course some of the paperbook crowd will never touch this light, preferring to use tallow candles or sputtering oil lamps.
Tradition, you know.
Customer Review: Best book light for inveterate night owl readers Summary: 5 Stars
The XtraFlex2 LED book light is light years (no pun intended) better than the old itty-bitty-type lights that used incandescent bulbs.
The XtraFlex2 gets great battery life, unlike the the itty-bittys, which I found went through batteries like crazy. Of course, the LED "bulbs" don't burn out like the itty-bitty blubs (and the XtraFlex2 doesn't heat up from its bulbs, either). The XtraFlex2's integrated battery pack is also great; no getting tangled up in a cord while you're in bed.
I stumbled on the XtraFlex2 at my local Borders. They had a bunch of them in a display when the final Harry Potter book was published (presumably figuring that a lot of kids, little and big, were going to be doing a lot of reading in bed...). The leftovers were sold at half price, a real bargain. I bought one, tried it out, loved it, and went back to buy several more for use as gifts (and spares).
Available in colors other than black; Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light, Silver, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Green, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Pink, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Dual Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Purple, and Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light, Blue.
Customer Review: Best ever book light Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this with some skepticism, thinking of the old adage, "once burned, twice shy". In fact it could be "many times burned, immensely shy" or som such in my case.
I have purchased at least 20 book lights in my many years of reading, and have found them all wanting, most of them seveely so.
Hence my surprise and pleasure at finding that this one lives up to and even exceeds its promise.
It is light in weight--with very good weight distribution when clipped to a book.
It distributes the light perfectly--right where directed--and is easily adjusted to wherever the reading surface may be.
The light doewn't spill over--a very critical point in keeping me out of trouble with my wife, who no longer has to implore me to turn off the light becuuse it is interfering with her sleep. Finally!
The batteries last much longer--again as promised, because the LED's draw so little, and also because the available lower setting uses less power but still provides adequate light for reading.
I just re-read the above and it sounds like I'm a shill--however I paid full price for this light, bought it by chance, don't know a soul connected with it, and consider it the best night reading light in all my scores of years of reading--by light years!
Customer Review: Great light Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this light this past weekend. I was tired of the two other lights I was using - one led light bought at Costco and the one that has a glass that covers the entire book page and is supposed to light the whole page uniformily.
I read some of the reviews here and decided to try it.
They have two models - with 1 led and with 2 leds. I got the light with 2 leds and I loved it. The things that I liked:
1 - two leds are really bright. I can read very well with only one led on. This saves battery.
2 - even when reading a regular book, the light can iluminate both pages at the same time. So you don't need to move the light position when you move from the left page to the right page. This was one thing that annoyed me with one of the lights I have - the one that covers the entire page - I had to move it every time I changed a page.
3 - it uses 3 AAA batteries. As soon as the ones that come with it runs out, I will install rechargeable batteries. This should save me some money in the long run.
4 - the clip is big enough that it will clip on my Kindle.
Overall I am very happy with the light.
Editted on 3/11/2009 - the light sold by Amazon does not come with AAA batteries. The one sold at retail stores here in my area does come with AAA batteries.
Customer Review: A must have for the Kindle Summary: 5 Stars
I can't begin to count how many book lights I went through looking for just the right one for my Kindle until I found this little gem. Some were too awkward. Some didn't light the entire screen. Some couldn't be positioned without a glare on the screen (like you get from a lamp from your room on the tv sometimes). I ordered the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On light based on the positive reviews a couple of months ago. I was hoping it would at least be adequate but I was pleasantly surprised that I was completely thrilled with it! What a difference!
I read in bed every night and so I don't wake my boyfriend, I like to use a booklight. This is the perfect light for the Amazon Kindle. I clip it to the back of the case and can bend it so that it lights the page completely without shining in my eyes or causing a glare off the screen. I'm still on the first set of batteries so it lasts a good long time. I especially like that it has 2 light settings. I prefer the setting with the dimmer amount of light - just right!
My only issue - and it is not the lights fault - is the bendy neck is easy to move so when my cat decides that I should not be reading when I could be paying attention to her she rubs her head up against the Kindle and moves the neck of the light. :)
