Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Midland NTVP1 Nautico 88-Channel Water-Resistant VHF Marine Two-Way RadioCustomer Review: Recommended, BUT...... Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this little gem and am pleased with the performance so far. I use it mainly for receiving weather reports and to keep on hand for emergencies. Reception and transmission voice clarity is better than I expected. I use on an inland lake so I have no problem with receiving a strong signal, but it seems to be about as advertised. Good set of accessories including AC adapter/charger, cigarette plug adapter/charger, waterproof "bag" (pretty cheesy but it works), belt clip, headset, and stand. Everything is lightweight plastic, but I don't intend to toss it around. If I get 5 years out of it, it still merits a "5" to me.
BUT: Don't do what I did and buy the Midland AVP4 Desk top charger. I thought it would be great to have extra NiCad battery packs on hand. Although it is shown as an "accessory", it is in fact designed for handheld two-way radios and NOT the NTVP1. Thanks to Amazon for taking it back - I think I'll just throw a set of fresh AAA's in my boat to use in an emergency.
Customer Review: Midland radio is excellent Summary: 5 Stars
This radio does what you need - not what you don't. The reception is good and sounds good. The calls I have placed were received "Loud and Clear". It is compact and comes with any accessory (rechargeable battery and two chargers, waterproof bag, bracket, clip) that you could want. It also runs on AA cells if your rechargeable runs down.
It does not have Digital Selective Calling which is not something I care about. It is not waterproof outside of its bag - also not a concern to me the way I use it.
I am a 25 year boatowner and I think the radio is great.
Customer Review: Radio Facilatates Rescue Summary: 5 Stars
On our first trip out with the radio, we got stuck out in Pamlico Sound
in the dark, in a small sailboat, with a storm coming up. We wanted to go into Ocracoke Harbor, but the increasing winds were coming straight up the channel.
We called on Channel 16, the Coast Guard answered and towed us in.
Battery still has juice from its initial charge.
One comment on the manual is it did not mention that if you are in the Emergency Channel 16 mode, the Menu Key will not get you to the Weather Channels.
Customer Review: Midland NTVP1 works great!! Summary: 5 Stars
In the reviews I read, several people complained about ease of operation. As long as you can learn your way around 3 buttons, all functions are readily available. It did take a couple of practice sessions to learn. Transmission and reception are exactly what you would expect from a hand held unit of 5 watts. Wonderfully small size and weather channels are both big pluses. Rechargeable battery pack OR 3 AA batteries is versatile.
Customer Review: Great Deal! Summary: 5 Stars
This was a great deal on a full 5 watt handheld VHF radio. Doesn't look so rugged, but for my use, it's great. Came with all the accessories to use in any situation. Only problem is that every once in a while, the channel gets stuck on 16 and I have to reset the radio. Unfortunately, it happens so rarely I can't usually remember the reset process. Again, the best price on a handheld you'll find.
