Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of MIDLAND WR300 Weather Radio

Customer Review: 4-1/2 Stars
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great weather alert radio. I bought it this spring when we were having constant severe weather here in Nebraska and our old weather radio had seen better days. More than once it alerted me to severe weather when I had no idea anything was nearby. I particularly like the power/battery option. I leave it plugged in but know it'll still work if the power goes out (which it did a few times this spring.) It's also easy to program to your own county's alerts. And you can easily switch back and forth between the National Weather Service broadcast and your local AM or FM station broadcast.

I like this so well I'm buying 2 more to give for Christmas this year. The ONLY reason I'm deducting half a star is because of the beep every time you make a change (radio channels at every point: 95.1 95.2 95.3 etc.) But Amazon doesn't give a choice for half a star so overall I'd have to rate it at 5 stars. (Beep is only annoying when you change settings.)

Customer Review: Excellent Radio.....I Would Know, I Own Several Brands
Summary: 5 Stars

I own 8 weather radios in several places here at my home, and in other locales. They represent 5 different brands. Of all of them I would recommend this unit first if what you are looking for is a tough, easily programmed, quality radio with excellent reception of weather broadcasts. If you are looking for something for your bedside, or something to play AM FM, there are cheaper models that serve that purpose just as well. This radio,(along with its cheaper counterpart also made by Midland), in my opinion represent the very best for the pure weather enthusiast like myself that don't really care about any AM FM features or reception. I happen to own the camouflage version of this radio, (that looks really cool by the way), but underneath is the very same design. I highly recommend this radio for the weather enthusiast that is serious about his gear. Or, for anyone that lives in an area where weather alerts can be life saving. They don't come any better.

Customer Review: It Does the Job Well
Summary: 5 Stars

Before buying the Midland WR300, I read many user reviews on various web sites that complained that the sound quality for the AM FM radio wasn't very good. My response to that is, "What were you expecting?" Like most (if not all) weather radios it has just a single speaker with the primary purpose of delivering a spoken weather message, and it performs that job very well. The AM FM radio is a bonus feature in my opinion. WR300 can be customized so you only get notifications for the counties you choose, and you can deactivate many of the notifications that might not apply to your area or that you might not be interested in. It has even warned me about severe thunderstorms before the local news stations. If you are looking for a great weather radio I don't think you can find a better one for the price. If you're looking for a great AM FM radio, buy one that is designed specifically for AM FM reception and audio quality.

Customer Review: Excellent Weather Radio for the Price
Summary: 5 Stars

Set up was VERY easy (had a WR-100 before). Got this one because of the 'disabling' feature of certain Watches, Alerts, Advisories and Statements. Took maybe 30 minutes to setup without reading manual. Had to look at the manual for one or 2 items. Other than that, the ability to disable the specific alerts is worth it's weight in gold for me. Along with the volume control for NOAA or Radio voice control and HI or LO siren alert option. Only con I could find is maybe could have a stronger reception but looking into the RF Antenna to fill that gap. No I have only JUST setup the weather radio but because I have had a WR-100 for 3 years now, this will perform as good or better (better I'm figuring because of the newer options) than the WR-100. Hope this helps. Anyone looking to get more precise and current information should look into getting a Weather 'station' setup they can hook to their computer.

Customer Review: Great weather radio!
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this weather radio after a recent hailstorm in which none of the neighbors could hear the accompanying city sirens warning of a very close tornado. I like that we can program it to receive only the local warnings if desired, and that it also runs on batteries. In the past 3 weeks the alarm has sounded 3 times for severe thunderstorm warnings; since we don't watch TV the warnings were very reassuring. The alarm is very loud, we moved it from our bedroom to the living room; we can even hear it outside. It has the option of just having the radio come on instead of the alarm, and also shows a red warning light when there is an alert. We live in the suburbs, and for us the reception of both AM/FM and weather radio are excellent. I would recommend this radio to anyone who lives in an area susceptible to severe weather, as well as to anyone who wants to be alerted to other civil emergencies.
