Customer Review: Must Have For Tornado Alley!
Summary: 5 Stars

We recently moved back to Oklahoma from Minnesota this past spring. The very 1st day that the movers were pulling out of our new house, the tornado sirens went off in NW Oklahoma City. Not having satellite TV yet, and only having a little radio, I was terrified. I stepped out my garage door to see the F-3 funnel about 2-3 miles west of my home. I immediately jumped into our newly built storm cellar and prayed to God!!! Ten minutes later, I was on Amazon purchasing of of these fine inventions.

It may SUCK to be woken up by the loud alarm, but at least I have advanced warning that a tornado is on its way and that my family and I have a great chance of survival. For less than $60 it was a small price to pay for piece of mind.

This weather radio has all of the alert types and it can be adjusted to individual tastes and individual counties. It is fairly easy to program and does what it's supposed to do... save your life and forewarn you!

I highly recommend this and I also recommend buying these before spring as receiving it took almost a month.

Customer Review: Worthless after only 1.5 years, but Midland came through!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this as a gift 1.5 years ago, after doing research among fellow weather buffs to see which weather radio they thought was good. And it WAS good for 1.5 years. Then a high pitched squeal is all you would hear across all weather channels. I contacted Midland, and since it was out of warranty, they said I would have to send 45 bucks plus shipping costs (not to mention cost of shipping back to them to receive a new one) and they would send a new one. This exceeds the cost of buying a new one from Amazon. I'm sick of the disposable mentality accepted by manufacturers and consumers these days. This thing is a RADIO, no moving parts, and they can't build it to last more than 18 months??? I even emailed the bigwigs at Midland hoping for some sort of REASONABLE resolution but so far they have not contacted me.

7/27/10 update: Midland customer service manager emailed me and they are replacing the unit at no charge. I went from being very upset to thrilled with their customer service, and will remain a Midland fan, as they really do stand behind their products.

Customer Review: Good replacement for an OS
Summary: 5 Stars

I have needed to replace my oregon scientific radio, and did so prior to this years storm season with the WR300. I have been very impressed with this model. I haven't been through any severe weather with it yet, but so far, this is what I like:

*Being able to disable certain alarms. The BEST feature of this radio. I hate getting severe thunderstorm warnings in the middle of the night when we are under tornado watches. NO MORE. I just went thru the setup and disabled most alarms, leaving the ones that are most necessary for life and death situations. I don't care if it is going to rain. I only want a warning if a tornado is approaching.
*AM/FM radio works very well and has an easy to use memory function.
*Small and compact. Fits easily on a desk and doesn't take up much room.
*Directions were clear and easy to follow.
*I like the backlighting. It is very easy to read and see at night.

Really, if you need a Weather Radio with SAME technology, you can't go wrong with this model.

Customer Review: Great gift
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this weather alert radio as a gift for my brother-in-law, who is not near any sort of civil alert siren. I performed the setup, which seemed relatively uncomplicated. The display is clear. Sounds quality was very good for this type of appliance. He is in a valley at the margins of good reception, but it seems to pull in the designated station clearly. I would not recommend this radio as a primary clock-radio for next to the bed, but would recommend one in the bedroom. I highly recommend that you set up any radio of this type to ignore ALL alerts that you do not care about (tests, thunderstorm watches, flash flood watches, etc.) If you do not do this, the radio will "cry wolf" and you will be apt to turn down the alert, which defeats the purpose. This radio also has the ability to have external alerts, such as attached strobes or horns, so it would be very good for the hard of hearing or disabled. I would recommend every household that isn't directly underneath a civil alert siren have this radio or one just like it.

Customer Review: I would buy this for my parents.
Summary: 5 Stars

With all of the good reviews, I went ahead and purchased this one. I live in central Texas and the weather changes quite a bit. I really love the feature of programming your county (S.A.M.E.), and the ability to have the alarm go off for for specified warnings. In the past month or two we have had several flood warnings, and I'm in an area that isn't affected much by flooding, so I don't want to be woken up in the middle of the night for that. The main reason I bought this was for the tornado warning, and there isn't an option to turn off the alarm for this, which I like. There is an orange light (for watches) and red light (for warnings) that will let you know there is something going on without the alarm going off. So if it's raining and you wake up, you press a button for the screen to light up and see what warnings or watches there are. If you buy it for someone that isn't too technical, you might want to offer to program it for them. I didn't have any problems with it, but I could see how someone could.
