Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of MIDLAND HH50 Pocket Weather RadioCustomer Review: Very Handy! Summary: 5 Stars
After being caught away from home during a tornado threat with no good way to get weather information, I decided I needed a portable weather radio. I didn't know if one even existed, and I was surprised and happy to find this one. I received it yesterday and was actually able to use it "for real" because we had a tornado watch and flood watch, and the information came through clearly and reliably. I didn't have any problems at all with static as a couple of reviewers mentioned -- it may depend on where you are in relation to the NOAA centers and/or whatever other interference might be in the area. I'm very pleased with the quality and portability of this radio (about cell phone size). I plan to take it with me on trips during storm season or even just general outings if there is a threat of severe weather. The radio automatically tunes in to the closest NOAA center, so you don't have to mess with entering codes and such like you do with most weather radios. One drawback to the radio is that when you are in Alert Mode and the alert plays, it doesn't automatically stop. It continues with the regular NOAA broadcasts (temperatures for various places, etc.) and they loop over and over. You have to shut the radio completely off and then turn it back on to Alert Mode to stop it. I would prefer that this be changed, but overall, the radio is so handy that I can live with that drawback.
