Customer Review: basic small wireless mouse
Summary: 4 Stars

If you looking for basic wireless mouse without any bells or whistles this the one for you. I uses it with two different laptops and it works well. It's also great size for a travel without being to small for comfort.

Customer Review: Ok, but it could be better
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this mouse a few weeks back for $20 (at a local brick & mortar store), and I'm somewhat/mostly pleased with it. I use it on a Windows XP laptop.

Good:

It was super-easy to install, the movement detection is good, it works well on a wide variety of surfaces, and it auto-detects the mouse without any issues when I plug in the USB part.

Bad:

The packaging (or manual, something) stated that the battery in the mouse can last for up to 6 months -- I've had it a few weeks and I'm on my 3rd battery. Granted, I am using rechargeable batteries now, but the battery that came with the mouse lasted all of one week.

The wireless signal seems to have very limited range. Especially if the battery is slightly low, I literally have to have the mouse right next to the USB thing in order for it to function properly. I haven't tried plugging in the USB part into the back of my laptop, but I would assume that the usability of this product would be hit and miss if I did.

Other note:

It's kind of small. Now, I've never had a proper optical, wireless mouse for a laptop before, I've always used a full-size wired mouse for my laptop before this. If you're used to a bigger mouse, it'll just take a short amount of time to get used to.

I could just have a somewhat-defective unit, I'm not sure. However, I have dozens of rechargeable batteries, and the limited-range thing doesn't affect me all that much as I'm usually working on a space-limited surface. For the price I paid for it, I think that it was a good buy. If I would have spent $30 on this, though (the current price here), I probably would have been more disappointed, but I don't think I would return it -- the good does outweigh the bad, in my opinion.

Customer Review: Works well, but rubberized side can wear quickly under the thumb
Summary: 3 Stars

The USB receiver works well, and while large compared to some other wireless mice, has not been a problem on my laptop at all. The mouse is suitably sensitive, and has worked well on all surface I have used (paper, desktop, trousers). I love finally having a scroll wheel for my laptop.

However, the rubberized side of the mouse, under where my thumb normally rests, seems to be shredding - the outer layer of plastic has little bits dangling and feels annoying under my thumb. I suspect it could have been weakened by a combination of the oils in my skin and coming into contact with other items in my laptop bag.

So, all in all a great mouse - I just wish the sides were made of a more durable material.

Update - November 2010
I have worn/reacted completely through the thin outer layer of plastic under where my thumb grips the mouse on the side, and the underlying layer of material is odd... it seems to "sweat" after I have used the mouse for a while. I return to my desk the next day, and will see a drop of liquid about to drip from the bottom of the mouse. I cannot tell if it is water or oil or a mix, but it is definitely a liquid. I now need to keep a paper towel handy to clean up after my mouse...

Customer Review: good but has some flaws
Summary: 3 Stars

This mouse works well for the most part, but sometimes the laser gets confused on some shiny surfaces. Other times the mouse and receiver seem unable to communicate for a few seconds only to return to normal a few seconds later. Somewhat annoying.

It would be nice if the mouse had a small shutoff button. The mouse does shut off when the receiver is inserted into its slot but sometimes I want to shut off the mouse without removing the receiver.

It would also be nice if the receiver slot was the same thickness of the receiver. Or maybe the receiver slid into the bottom or something. Currently the receiver is a bit thicker and the result is that the mouse is bulkier than it needs to be.

Otherwise the mouse is pretty good.

Customer Review: Not a replacement for the corded 3000...sigh...
Summary: 3 Stars

Hubby just brought this mouse home for me. My desk is crampier than it used to be, and the cord on my Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 (also a MS product) kept getting in the way. Well, this new one is longer and also higher than the old one, and it is already beginning to hurt my wrist. I will go back to my corded one for now and keep looking for a smaller wireless mouse that is more comfortable. But, this is convenient and works well.
