I bought this shortly after buying my Xbox in 2004. However, before I bought this, I bought the Linksys WGA54G Wireless-G Gaming Adapter since I already had a Linksys Wireless-G Router. It ended up being DOA, as well as the second one I got. I stopped at two strikes and Linksys was out.
Microsoft stepped up with its Wireless Adapter that is smaller than the Linksys and works with the Xbox right out of the box. When trying to resolve the issues with the Linksys gaming adapter I already found out about the incompatibility with UPnP and had it turned off on the router. I simply plugged this in to the Xbox, searched for and connected to my wireless network and I was on Xbox Live.
I bought an Xbox 360 when it launched and right at launch they made it so this adapter work work seamlessly with it. In fact all I had to do was disconnect the ethernet cable from the original Xbox and plug it into the Xbox 360 and it was already connected to the network. All I had to do then was recover my Gamertag which is easy if you remember your hotmail address and password that's connected to your Xbox Live account.
My only gripe remotely related to this is that it would take forever to enter a WEP key using the Xbox controller, but you could connect this to a computer and set it up using a browser as well.

just purchased this unit. brand new. software worked on xbox 360. all i had to do is go into the xbox 360 settings as followed on xbox.com/support page and follow what they tell you to do. online activity acually runs faster then if i were plugged directly into the modem. a must buy. don't pay for the 360 wireless gaming adapter when you could get this one for at least half off. mine was a little more then 25.00 from walmart. my router i used was the linksys wrt54g wireless-g.Customer Review: DOES Work With the XBOX 360

After 2 years of flawless service with my original XBOX, I won a 360 for free. I got the 360, and looked online to see if there were wireless accessories for it, since I didn't believe this would work. I added the 360 one to my cart, but checked the original XBOX adapter first. To my surprise, it worked perfectly.
Don't buy the XBOX 360 Wireless Networking Adapter. BUY THIS ONE. It works with both systems. Those who say otherwise are lying. This works with my 360 even though my wireless router is two floors above me. I play in the basement while my router is in the top floor, and I still get 3/4 bars of network strength.
All in all, this is perfect for both the original XBOX as well as the XBOx 360. BUY IT!

After reading other reviews, I thought it was worth saving $50 to take the gamble on having it connect to my Xbox 360.
Just received it in the mail today, and after I connected it and turned it on, I went to the Xbox settings panel and picked my wireless router from the list of several available, put in my WEP key, and I was connected. BTW, I have an AT&T broadband connection with their company wireless router.
Quick and no hassle! Didn't read the manual, didn't use the software CD.
Now my son is setting up his Xbox Live account, and we're ready to go.
