Customer Review: Frustrating double-click issue
Summary: 3 Stars

Edit: Great support from Microsoft! They offered to replace my Habu mouse with the Sidewinder X5, or give the money back. I took the money back, but I might get the Sidewinder X5 anyway because it's reviewed pretty well and has the DPI switching I love. Thanks Microsoft! Here is the review I made before:

There is one issue with this mouse that trumps all the other cool stuff about it: Accidental double-clicks. Not the result of a software setting anywhere, but seemingly a hardware issue that makes it so every 30 clicks more or less is a double click.

It started a few months after I bought it. After scouring the internet for a fix, the only thing that ended up working was pressing the button down really hard. But even then the issue would come back in a few days, and now even that fix seems not to work.

I love the DPI switching buttons. I love the look, I love the feel, I love the software that comes with it. But none of that matters if the mouse itself doesn't work right.

I am a web designer, so I need to be precise when working with software like Photoshop. The mouse performs great up until the issue pops up again.

I'm off to buy a cheaper mouse with a better record on reliability. And yes, I'm switching to Logitech. Microsoft mice are out of the picture for me for a while. *not

Lastly, I will say that I never tried opening the mouse to fix it, because I don't have the know how. Maybe this would be an easy fix for someone out there, but not for me.

Customer Review: Solid mouse, but not 'quite' there
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought the Microsoft Habu mouse to replace a malfunctioning Logitech G5 which decided to spontaneously turn itself off at random moments. Ergonomically, it's a solid, comfortable mouse to rest your hand on and particularly visually striking with a neon-blue light pipe running around the edge and also the wheel (this can be disabled if needed). The mouse comes with an alternate set of side buttons, but after playing around with both I found it more of a gimmick then honestly finding an real need to change them out from the original. The mouse sensor appears to be on-par with Logitech's, though it's located low on the mouse body and tends to cause lower sensitivity with certain wrist movements.

As with the G5, it has two buttons located below the wheel to adjust sensitivity on the fly. Unfortunately, it's missing the indicator LEDs of the G5, so switching is rather hit-and-miss (it certainly took me more then one tap on the button to change between settings) until you see a noticeable change in cursor performance on-screen.

It's also rather light. Without the additional weight to counterbalance, it's harder to fine tune control for twitch heavy applications, particularly FPS's. Rather then adjusting the mouse quickly, I found myself fiddling with programs mouse sensitivity options instead.

Having used both, I'd recommend the G5 over the Habu.

Customer Review: Better off with something else
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this mouse Feb 2009, manufactured Dec 07. About 6 months ago the middle wheel clicks several times when I press it once. It's very annoying when middle clicking links to open in a new tab, more often than not it will open 3 tabs from just one click. Another issue is the lights. I don't like aving the lights on during daytime, there isn't a way to configure a button to toggle them. There is a work around set a button to set a profile and in the software have the lights off. When pressing the button it will turn off the lights, but there is no way to turn them on without loading the software. The lights do not save state during reboot, same as my Sidewinder X4 keyboard.

It does have a nice feel, but it's a bit too narrow for large hands. I have it 3 stars because I did like it while it lasted but it only lasts for 3 years. If your looking for a new mouse, I wouldn't recommended this one for gaming.

Customer Review: Going back to my Logitech G500
Summary: 3 Stars

I am going back to Logitech, G500 probably. Why? Well I burn up my mice playing PC Games, FPS in particular, so the mouse is important to me. The logitech are tough, durable and precise. I took a chance on the Habu thinking with who developed it maybe it will be good.

First impression of the Habu was that the software sucks. But no reason to beat a dead horse on that one. But I did think it felt nice and played very nicely after everything was up and working. But after about a month of normal PC gaming use the roller wheel broke. Looking inside the axle of the wheel is plastic (surprise) and sheered clean off. Getting someone to replace it has been fun and unsuccessful up to this point.

Conclusion: Too expensive for the quality. Feels cheep and broke like it was built cheep. Software needs massive overhaul. Will I buy it again? No chance!

Customer Review: Great until it breaks
Summary: 3 Stars

I've owned this mouse for just over a year, and I've really enjoyed it. After using a wireless mouse for a full day, my wrist would be sore so I wanted a lighter wired mouse. This mouse is light, accurate, and feels great in my hand.

However, it has recently started to double or triple-click occasionally when I only single-click. I just replaced it with a different mouse. It should not have failed after one year of use.

As for the firmware update. I tried to install that. Besides being somewhat complicated, it turns out that I can't even install it because there isn't an updater available for Vista 64.

I was really tempted to order another one of these, but I decided not to due to the early failure.
