Customer Review: After years of use my habu still works great
Summary: 5 Stars

First off I'd like to say as a intermediate artist and casual/competitive gamer, I'm always looking for the best gear to get the job done. After having owned the habu for 4 years, minus 3 months for the one I'm currently using, this mouse has served me extremely well helping me fill in all the tiny details, pwn those noobs, and just navigating webpages, through thousands of clicks. Still working like new!

So I'll keep this review nice and simple and state how I rate each category and why.

Construction and material: 5/5

I've dropped this mouse, packed it for travel, slid it across many surfaces and it's still running great. I've definitely abused the 2 main buttons, be it from spam clicking, to angry clicking, and they're still clicking everything phenomenally. The one time I broke it, which any normal mouse cord would've snapped in the same situation, it was completely my fault. The laser is what truly makes this mouse a beast. I've literally gamed on glass with this mouse, no it wasn't 100%, but it was the best I had at the time and I needed to burn some time. With the customizable settings you can make this mouse fit any need you have.

Software: 5/5

Used to suck really bad but if you get a newer one it's all easy to set up. 5 profiles that are saved to the mouse, so if you take it somewhere you can change through the 5 presets by pressing the button on the bottom without having to set up software on the computer.

Daily and rigorous use: 5/5

Since the software is really easy now, it's simple to set up configurations for different purposes. For instance I almost always like my cursor covering a lot of screen with little physical movement. So for regular internet browsing, word processing, excel worksheet and other normal use I set up a lower dpi like 800 but a higher sensitivity. What this does is lets you sort of jump across pixels that don't matter and still end up on the place you need to be. But for art and precision use I set the dpi at 2000 but your polling and sensitivity lower, that way small movements with the mouse show small movements on the screen, and the 2000 dpi allows you to easily hit those small pixels that would otherwise be pesky with a lower dpi laser. In gaming I mainly play rts, so I want my cursor moving quickly across the screen, but to also hit those tiny pixels as my cursor is going over them. As such I set my dpi and polling really high, but set my sensitivity to a medium low. With the software I'm able to easily store all my profiles for use on anyone's computer.

Ergonomics: 4/5

The simple reason I give this 1 point off is because it's right handed only. But if you're one of the 5 billion people that happen to be right handed the ergonomics on this mouse are absolutely fantastic. I actually hate other mouses now. This mouse just cradles in your hand so amazingly, and all the buttons are easily accessible. You can easily program buttons for all of your separate profiles. The wheel just doesn't stop spinning amazingly.

As a side note I'm going to go through my traumatic experience with this mouse, and the amazing ease of replacing it. So I was browsing while laying in bed using my habu because it's so much better than a trackpad, and I go to sleep and leave it near me. It was the weekend so I was sleeping in, around 9 a.m I hear this crash and wake up. OMG I dropped my laptop off the side of the bed! First thing I do is retrieve my laptop. Fortunately everything was alright with that except there's the usb end of my mouse sticking out the side! The cord had snapped about an inch down from the usb plug. The dismay I felt after only having this mouse for three months and having fallen in love with it. Later that day I called microsoft support, talked with a live person, they send me a new mouse for free which arrives in 3 short days. I was amazed considering the ridiculous support I had gotten previously when my xbox had the rrod 3 times. I decided that I would rewire my free mouse and give it away as a present :)

Overall 5/5

With the updated software coming with the mouse now, it's now safe to give the habu an easy 5 out of 5. Absolutely amazing going through all the abuse a hard user like me put their gear through, and still to this day performing 98% (a little hard to clean some spots) of what it did the day I pulled it out of the package. Quality with a medium price tag.

Customer Review: Excellent ergonomics, go for the Razor driver
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using the mouse for over a year now, and I am very happy with it. I love the ergonomics - the large body, which supports my palm in a great way, the large buttons and the DPI switcher (400/800/1600/2000 DPI). This latter is excellent for large 20" and above screens - for navigating around the screen I use the mouse in "fast mode", then when I edit images etc. I switch to "slow mode".

Instead of the MS driver, I have downloaded the driver from the Razer website.
I didn't use it for gaming, just for office/web/picture editing.
The back-forward buttons are exchangeable to smaller ones.
Polling rate can be 125/500/1000 Hz.
Can be adjusted on a scale of 1-10:
- Sensitivity
- Win pointer speed
- Acceleration
- X and Y sensitivity (when turned on) .
Configurations can saved and loaded, and assigned to buttons.

I liked:
- ergonomics are great
- big buttons
- buttons are programmable, you can set macros etc. if you want
- scroll wheel scrolls with steps (not freewheel)
- long cable

I didn't like:
- needed to download drivers from Razer website
- my motherboard doesn't support wake-up for this USB mouse (I used to turn on the PC with a double click)
- blue leds can be switched off, but the sometimes they turn back on

In summary, I am very happy with the mouse, and recommend it.

Customer Review: Yeah I know its M$, but it REALLY is a great mouse!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was originally using a Logitech Trackman Wheel, and it was doing its job: moving the pointer. Then I got to the point where I needed to get a mouse, because the trackball was not cutting it.
I was leery at first about shelling out $45 for a mouse, but when I got the mouse I was glad I did. I does feel like, or I should say it has the same shape as the old M$ intellimouse optical, only a wee bit bigger but still within acceptable limits. When I connected the mouse to the computer, M$ XP recognized it and after using it for about 20 minutes I installed the drivers and that is when I really noticed the GIGANTIC difference in adjust-ability of the Habu mouse. A couple of other features I liked were first, the glowing blue lights AND the ability to toggle them on or off, and second the buttons: all of them. I know this sounds goofy, but the buttons have a comfortable and sensitive "clicky-ness" that I did not have with the trackball.
As I mentioned, I just installed it and I think it is a great mouse and the money I payed for it was worth it...but now it has to pass the test of time. I am hoping for a life expectancy of about 5 to 7 years.

Customer Review: Stinky Software, Great Mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I owned a Deathadder mouse before this one and that one kicked the bucket so I needed a cheaper mouse since I didn't want to pay fifty bucks for another. The Habu costed thirty dollars and shipping was free so it sounded like a good deal from the reviews. The problem I did run into was the exact same with my Deathadder software which had to be downloaded from the Razer site to work with Vista. The mouse will work when you plug it in but the features won't until you figure out the software and update. The mouse itself works fine now and plenty fast since I am currently running dual monitors and need a fast mouse. The setup and feel of the mouse is the exact same as the Deathadder as well which is something I really enjoyed. Overall though the software is bad the mouse itself is a great product.

Update:
If I could go back I would give this mouse three stars since the mouse wheel all of sudden started squeaking really bad. It is really loud and I have no clue how this happened since I dont really use it much.

Customer Review: Nice joint effort! Excellent mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this after the teflon feet of my logitech G5 wore out and the replacements that I got were pretty bad... Plus I wanted TWO side buttons instead of the one that the G5 has.

The Software that this mouse comes with is pretty sweet. I don't have a need for 5 profiles to be saved in the mouse but if I ever do the option is there. The other thing is that I hate reconfiguring my mouse's resolutions each time I fresh install my OS, this mouse has onboard memory and keeps all this info for me(I just wish it would remember the setting I have for turning off the lights...). I also noticed that the resolution changing software is more responsive in some games than the Logitech Setpoint software is and has a smaller memory footprint.

My only complaint is that it feels a litte cheap compared to the G5(not as solid). But I do like the way it fits my hands like Microsoft mice are known for.
