Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000

Customer Review: Great Mouse although configuration took me some time
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this mouse so much! It runs smoothly both in Snow Leopard and Win7 (64bit). In SL, the configuration is easy. Now I would like to say how to configure it in Win7(64bit). Before I bought this mouse, I did read a lot of reviews about it and many guys said it cannot work in Win7(64bit). Yes, it was true for me at the beginning. The computer can find the device but the cursor cannot move. Now you need to remove and reconnect it again. Choose Bluetooth device icon and choose add a device, you will see the computer is searching the mouse. After it found the mouse, do not click next, you should first right click the mouse icon and choose properties and make sure you check "keyboard mouse drive program(HID)", then click next. Then it can work!

If you cannot find "keyboard mouse drive program(HID)" or just as some other guys said, in the Intellipoint list, they couldn't find this mouse, don't worry, just choose the "Intellimouse Explorer for Bluetooth", it worked for me! Then you can see "keyboard mouse drive program(HID)", OK, click next. That's all!

Hope this experience is helpful for you guys! :-)

Customer Review: Now Supported by IntelliPoint 6.3 for Mac
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought and returned this mouse a few months back because I wanted the scroll button and "back" button to work. At that time, Microsoft had not updated it's software to support those buttons on a Macintosh. It has now.

IntelliPoint 6.3 -- from the Microsoft site, now supports this mouse, the System Preference pane allows assignment and reassignment of the 4 buttons, and adjustment of the scrolling speed. Software allows separate settings for different applications (a slower speed for fine graphics control, for example). I'm using it on a MacBook, running OS X 10.5.6, and all seems well. Only feature missing is a way to report the battery level, the meter on the Bluetooth pane does not do it.

Cannot comment on the durability. As far as the power switch problem above, I don't really understand the problem -- if you are not moving the mouse, it powers down. Only time you should need to switch it off is for travel.

All in all, I am very happy that Microsoft put in the effort to add this mouse to its Intellipoint software.

Cheers.

Customer Review: good mouse for the money
Summary: 5 Stars

This mouse is supported in Windows 7, contrary to what was reported by several other posters. I'm using it as I type this on a Windows 7 machine. Microsoft also officially supports it on Windows 7, see [...]

It's small, but not uncomfortably so. I think Microsoft made a nice compromise between usability and portability in this regard. The scroll wheel is clicky, but works well. Tracking has been outstanding: I've used it on cloth, wood, and plastic and have yet to fool it. It's easy to hold, attractive, and works well. The neoprene case that ships with it was more substantial than I expected...a really nice touch! It also included Energizer batteries instead of some cheap brand that I've never heard of.

Getting it to communicate with my notebook was simple. In the four days I've been using it, it has never dropped its connection. I appreciate the back button and have not missed the inclusion of a forward button. I do miss horizontal scrolling, but did not expect it at this price point.

Really, for $33 I don't see how I could have done better.

Customer Review: Great mouse. Error with my HP at first, but easily fixed.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a pretty nice mouse. It is very sleek looking and compact. I didn't have any problems pairing it with my computer or dopping the signal. It has a battery life indicator and a power on/off switch to save power.

Although, I did run into an error message "HID data has stopped working" when installing it on an HP with Windows Vista 64 bit.

No worries though, you can fix it by doing the following:

Click on the Vista logo on the bottom left of your screen,
enter: msconfig in the search field.
Press enter to start the program.
Click continue if you get the popup of User Account Management.
Choose the startup tab in the System Configuration Window
Browse to the "HP Quick Launch Buttons" and uncheck this item
Click the OK button and restart your system

The message should be gone. Other then that, I am very happy with this mouse.

UPDATE:

I upgraded Windows Vista 64 bit to Windows 7 64 bit and their were absolutely no errors/problems pairing this mouse.

Customer Review: Fully Satisfied
Summary: 5 Stars

The mouse is comfortable and has whatever features I was looking for - back button, on-off switch, sleep mode. It is responsive and works on virtually
every surface. It wakes up quickly after sleeping (I haven't figured out exactly when it goes to sleep because the laptop also hibernates).
Thus far the connectivity is great and has never been lost. My laptop didn't have on board Bluetooth so I got an Azio BTD-V201 (with the Toshiba stack)
and they are are working beautifully together on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. Be careful when ordering - there are 2 versions: one for Windows 7 and one for Macs. I am uncertain about the cross combatibility. The Windows 7 part number is 69R-00001 and comes in a red plastic container. The only downside is you need small fingers to change the batteries (have only had the mouse one month so I can't comment on battery life). However, access to the batteries is easily obtained if you just use a pair of tweezers or something similar to pull up on the tabs under the batteries.
