Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000Customer Review: Free up a USB port Summary: 5 Stars
I had the opportunity to add bluetooth capability to the 2 new laptop computers (Dell Latitude 6500)we ordered to replace an old laptop and desktop. Wasn't really sure if we'd need the feature, but what the heck - I'm a sucker for anything that will do away with cords. Wanting to keep the USB ports free for other things and since I really don't like using those little USB hubs, moving to a bluetooth mouse seemed like the perfect choice. On-line research showed the Microsoft 5000 to be a pretty good choice, all things (battery life, size, design and price) considered, so I ordered 2 of them.
Smart choice! Pairing with the computer was simple and quick. Have only had one instance where the process had to be repeated. The mouse is a substantial in size. My husband has no problem using it even with his extra large hands. Will work on any surface, although I DO use a standard mouse pad for convenience. I'm sure it has more features I've yet to discover, and discovery will be necessary as the documentation is rather skimpy.
Takes 2 AAA batteries, which were included (surprise!) with the mouse. I love the on/off switch. Have no idea how long the batteries will last, but both mice have been in use 8-10 hours each day for the past month with no problems.
Customer Review: A great buy Summary: 5 Stars
I was a little wary of purchasing this product, because of the few bad reviews that were posted. After months of debating I finally got tired of my current laser mouse and said why not I can always return it if it was a dud. I usually always have the worst luck and get all of the bugs and shoddy manufactured models. Well, not this time I received a great product for a great price. All of the positive reviews are right on battery life is incredible, it feels great in your hand for such a small size, and the bluetooth is great and eliminates additional adapters. The only thing that I really noticed that could improve on this model is a forward button. Another buyer commented on the lack of one as well and at first while reading his/her post it seemed like a small bit of nitpicking. After actually using the device and becoming dependent on the simple yet incredible function of having the back button designed on the mouse, it seemed like such a waste to not have a forward button as well. Other than that I have no complaints at all and since I can't find any other mouse with a back and forward button it is not really a complaint. If you are having second thoughts about purchasing this device just forget about them and make your purchase.
Customer Review: Good Product Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this about a month ago and have not had any problems with it so far (Amazon makes you do your reviews way to early though). It's plastic like all other mice, and about as heavy duty. It is a little slow (30 sec after full start) to capture the bluetooth signal at first, but once it has it it maintains the connection. Also Microsoft warns that it may interfere with wireless connectivity, but I have not had that problem. I don't know about battrey life yet, but it is nice to have a button to turn if off (whether that really helps I don't know). It was easy to set up with my Bluetooth ready computer. It rolls as smoothly as another mouse, and appears on the screen the same.
I could not connect it to an older computer (Toshiba Laptop S series, 2006) for which I had to use a USB port Blue Tooth adapter. I am not sure if that was me, the computer, the adapter, or the mouse, but I did not try that hard because I use the touch pad and a simple wireless mouse on that laptop.
Since it is the same size as other mice it is equally portable. Microsoft includes a nice neoprene pouch which I don't think they put in the description.
So far, I'd buy again.
Customer Review: Great portable laptop Bluetooth mouse! Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased this Bluetooth laptop mouse with the new laptop for our daughter. I've been very impressed with it's ease of use and setup. The initial setup and pairing was a snap, and now the mouse is "located" by the laptop within seconds each time we turn it on. The size is just right, not only for portability, but also for the primary user in our case which is our 11 year old daughter. However, although it's smaller than a standard mouse, it is not too small for an adult to use comfortably. The only reason I gave 4 stars for the "features" is that I wish it had a "Forward" button on the side of the mouse to compliment the "Back" button that's there (as my desktop mouse does), and I also wish there were other color options, since this will be used primarily by our 11 year old and she wanted something that looked "cooler". Otherwise, we are very please with the mouse overall and in fact, we've been using the mouse for several weeks now and we have yet to replace the batteries, which is a pleasant surprise. As long as you remember to turn the mouse off after each use, the battery-life doesn't appear to be an issue. We would highly recommend this Bluetooth laptop mouse.
Customer Review: Perfect for laptop with bluetooth Summary: 5 Stars
It took about 15 seconds for this mouse to pair up with my Thinkpad T61p. I did have to change the settings to make the movement less sensitive but other than that, no complaints. The scroll wheel has a nice feel to it and just the right resistence when turning, as well as the wheel button click. I was afraid that I would have to wait the same 15 seconds to pair when booting up the laptop but luckily it only took about 5. Just in case someone hasn't mentioned it, the bluetooth logo on the top does NOT light up. It would've added to the coolness factor. As everyone else, I like that you can turn the mouse off to conserve battery. The only concern I have is the battery cover. The flexible plastic piece you have to bend to take off the cover seems like it could break easily if you open the cover very often. I would just be careful with it. So far so good, just got it yesterday but if it lasts, I recommend buying this mouse. Just remember that this mouse does NOT include a USB dongle and meant for computers with built-in bluetooth. When it was first sold on Amazon a few months ago, they let it go for $34 + free shipping. What a steal! I should've bought it then.
