Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000Customer Review: Very satisfying. Great mouse for moderate price! Summary: 5 Stars
I received this mouse about one week ago and so far it's completely satisfying. It goes very smooth and precise on the screen. If it's been inactive for a while it wakes up very fast. The mouse works on all surfaces I've tried so far; the scratched and worn off table surface, mouse pad, my pants or sweatshirt etc. were all no problem where either one or the other of my old mice wouldn't work.
The design could surely be better, and I would have liked to give it only a 4.5 star rating if it was possible. It generally feels good tho, my hand is just not quite used to it and I could believe it gets uncomfortable in extensive use.
The bluetooth connection is simply awesome! It was no hassle to get it connected to my Thinkpad and now it connects automatically as soon as the Windows log on screen comes up. It hasn't disconnected a single time yet, and I simply love the fact that I can use it without a usb receiver.
I can't say anything about the battery life as I've had it for only a week, but personally I don't worry about it as I always use rechargeable batteries in mice anyway.
As mentioned before i would have giving it a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars if I could have, due to it's design. I decided to give it 5 and not 4 stars because it met my expectations and in some ways even exceeded my expectations, but also in regards to the price since most bluetooth laser mice are much more expensive and I doubt they could be much better.
Update 12/15/2008: I've had this mouse for over a month now and I'm still totally satisfied. The batteries that were included lasted about a month, without ever switching it of and under very heavy usage (almost every day up to 8h a day). And once the battery indicator turns red, you still have several hours before it stops working, so enough time to find replacement.
Now about the power switch: I've seen many people complain that it is way too small... yes it is small, but I think I have quite fat fingers and practically no fingernails, however I have no problem using the switch at all.
It does drop connection once in a while as other people mentioned too. It's quite annoying when it happens as it apparently doesn't "realize" it's disconnected and therefore doesn't reconnect. You'll have to switch the mouse off and on to get it working again. But this disconnection only happens perhaps once or twice a week under the above mentioned very heavy usage. So really it's not much of a problem.
Customer Review: My Favorite Mouse to Date Summary: 5 Stars
As I write this review, there are 308 reviews already posted about this Microsoft Bluetooth mouse on Amazon. That means it is unlikely anyone will ever see my review here, but after using this mouse for over a year now, I felt that I should add my own "two cents" to the write-ups here.
The Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 Mouse is one of the best mice designs I've ever used. And that's saying something: I've owned literally dozens and dozens of mice over the years. I've owned large mice, small mice, high-precision mice, trackballs, thumballs, wireless mice, corded mice, and on and on. Some had scroll wheels, some had "control sticks" (much like the "eraser head" design we sometimes see on certain brands of laptops). Some were quite heavy. Some were so lightweight that they seemed empty of any interior mechanics. Most worked acceptably well, but none were really anything you would write home about.
The Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 Mouse, however, has turned out to be a bit different to me. I purchased the device to accompany my Bluetooth equipped laptop, an HP dv2000. From the moment I started using the mouse, I liked it, and liked it a lot. After using it a year, I still like it a lot, because it works well, is comfortable, and is small enough to transport easily with my laptop. I would recommend this mouse as a great mouse for most anyone, and although there are always new designs appearing, I still find this particular mouse quite impressive. And, to boot, the price has come down about $15 since I purchased it last year.
Pros
1. Small form factor
2. Relatively light weight (considering it must hold two AAA batteries)
3. Comfortable shape
4. Programmable side buttons
5. Good battery life
6. Easy (and problem free) Bluetooth connectivity to any computer
7. Soft pouch with Velcro closure included with device
8. Small LED warning when nearing end of battery life
9. Power switch on bottom allows device to be turned off when not in use
Cons
1. Still a tad pricey, but now much better than last year
2. Only available in pearlescent white (attractive, but would be nice to have a color choice)
If you are looking for a high quality bluetooth mouse, you likely will be happy with this model. I can easily recommend the device with five stars.
Customer Review: Bought 2 of these, and they work Great! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought 2 of these. One for a kitchen netbook (Link-->)MSI Wind U100-432US 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black and one for a new high end Dell workstation notebook. By the way, I love the MSI Wind netbook which is why I put the link in.
Please note that this mouse does NOT come with a laptop bluetooth transmitter or BT stack software. Your computer should ALREADY have the bluetooth device installed for this mouse to work.
My MSI Wind netbook (Windows XP SP3) already had the bluetooth transmitter and software stack installed on the computer, and it worked great, with no problems. On the new high end Dell notebook, I thought it had a transmitter built in, but it didn't so I had to buy a micro USB bluetooth dongle. (I highly recommend the Cirago BTA3210 micro USB adapter dongle, and comes with a Toshiba bluetooth software stack- worked with my Vista 64 bit Operating system with no problem). Here's the link: Cirago BTA3210 Class 2 Micro Bluetooth Adapter (Black Tip)
The mouse itself works on all kinds of surfaces. I use mine on the couch, in bed, on kitchen surfaces, and even on my pants leg, and the laser mouse tracks all these surfaces without any problems. There's no annoying bright light underneath the mouse. The laser tracking is much better than the older "optical" mice, with the bright lights underneath.
The mouse itself is smaller than a "full size" mouse, but it's not so tiny as to be unusable. It packs well in a briefcase or backpack. It takes 2 AAA batteries (included). When not in use, there is a "on/off" switch on the bottom to save power. However, it seems like the mouse also has a "sleep mode" when not used for a while. Just jiggle the mouse, and it comes back to life after a second or 2.
The center scroll wheel is nice to flip through web pages, without having to go to the scrollbars on the side.
Bottom line is I like this mouse!
Customer Review: VX & VISTA Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought a VX Revolution. Making the connection with MS VISTA concerned me after reading a review about a computer crash right after installing Setpoint, Logitech's mouse software, and rebooting their computer. I had no such problem, for which I am grateful. The software download went smoothly, there were no glitches. During the download I received a message from Logitech about an upgraded version of Setpoint that I could download at no charge, and I did. Once again, no problem with VISTA and my computer accepting the upgrade.
I've had the VX for only a day--and thus far, it's working as it's suppose to work. I've kept the buttons, wheel and slide control assigned to the default operations because they suit my applications. But, one can modify the each control to perform various operations. I'm not sure if this is 'the' mouse for gamers; I'm not a gamer and I don't know gamers' requirements in a mouse. However, if you word process, communicate on line, use the internet for research or for buying laser mice, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and whatever other every-day apps you might perform, the VX gets the job done with ease and the learning curve is pretty much nonexistent.
If you've small to medium size hands, you'll find the size of the VX close to perfect. I had looked into the MX Revolution, but I really had no need for the additional wheel that the MX has on the left or thumb-side of the mouse, and the MX is larger, so it didn't feel as comfortable to operate as its smaller USB relative, the VX. This is made for right-hand operation only.
Also, I use Firefox and have found no problems using the VX with the Mozilla browser. There seems to be some concern and question about longevity--I can't attest to longevity, but if this device performs like this six months from now, it will have proven its worth. Thus far, I'd call it a great buy. The performance is exceptional.
Customer Review: Excellent efficiency, great for travel. Summary: 5 Stars
This mouse is great with my Dell Latitude D610. The bluetooth connects quickly and the control is excellent, much better than my old corded mouse. The lack of a receiver (for laptops with internal bluetooth) makes it great to just take the mouse with you to meetings and you don't have to worry about plugging anything in. The bluetooth connection is seemless. Just turn it on with the slide switch on the bottom (if you choose to use it to conserve batteries) and it connects quickly.
The response is quick and I don't see any problems with it other than the fact that you CANNOT reassign the fifth button with the junky software Microsoft puts out (Intellimouse, which isn't even included with this mouse). You have to read the fine print on the mickysoft website to find this, but don't fret. Get the free Xmouse driver (freeware on the web) and you can reassign anything you want.
I can't comment too much about battery life, but seems to be pretty good. I've been using this thing for a solid three weeks every day for at least 9 hours a day and I haven't gone through one set of batteries yet.
I love the small size. At first it seems too small, but you get used to it and realize that the sloped sides make it extremely easy to pick up and move to go farther than your mouse pad does.
This mouse seems pretty solid, and the click and move action is extremely smooth. I would prefer a quieter, easier scroll wheel, but it's not too bad. Overall an excellent mouse!
