Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Arc Mouse - RedCustomer Review: Best Mouse I've Ever Used Summary: 5 Stars
I love this mouse, this is the second one I've bought (one for each computer). I'm using the new one with my laptop (I don't like using the touchpad).
I love the design of this mouse - it just looks cool, a neat curve that sits on the table. It is light in the hand, doesn't feel clunky like some mice, and moves smoothly. Battery utilization is very good; when you fold it up it shuts off. It folds up to a nice size for traveling. I like the fact that the dongle magnetically sticks to the inside of the mouse and with the mouse folded, isn't going to go anywhere. I know that some people have said that the dongle could have been smaller in size, but I find this size much easier to insert and remove from the USB port. I hate having to pry things out of the computer. And given the fact that my Vista laptop seems to forget that it has a mouse connected to it every time it emerges from sleep, I am always reinserting the dongle. I don't have any problem with any of the button placements or the scroll wheel. I don't use the Intellipoint software (it causes Vista to burp ;->) but I know that it exists.
Because it's a laser mouse, it is precise; it works very nicely with digital editing programs. One of the things you have to remember with a laser mouse, though, is that you shouldn't use it on a reflective surface, like glass or some of the very thin, shiny mouse pads out there. What I have found, that works well, are those very thin, opaque, plastic chopping board sheets that are sold in the housewares sections of stores - usually you get four sheets for about six dollars (much cheaper than a mouse bought in a computer store). One sheet can be cut down into two regular mouse pad shapes. They work very well with the Arc Mouse, and last indefinitely.
