Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Arc Mouse - BlackCustomer Review: My new favorite mouse Summary: 5 Stars
I love this mouse. It's stylish (to me at least), comfortable, & works great. I bought this for my new laptop in November because I wanted a portable wireless mouse, but hate every tiny laptop mouse that I've tried. I like this mouse so much that I sometimes find myself using it with my desktop (which has it's own wireless mouse).
My brother was skeptical when I was ordering this mouse, but once he saw it in person & used it for a bit, he said that if he was going to buy a mouse that's not made by Apple, he'd get this one. Folded up, it's about 60% of the size of an average mouse; opened up it's about the same size as an average mouse, but a little higher at the center (due to the arc design). The magnet that holds the USB dongle in place works wonderfully & is on the underside of the folding half, so that it stows neatly inside when not in use.
I noticed one of the reviewers had a problem with the location of the side button. The placement of the button is perfect for me - it's far enough up that it doesn't get in the way or get clicked on accident, but I can still click it easily & comfortably when I need to (I once had a mouse where the side button was the entire length of the mouse...it was accidentally clicked so frequently that I disabled it)
If I ever need to replace my desktop mouse, I'll be getting another one of these.
Customer Review: Arc Mouse Summary: 5 Stars
I am not a PC gamer, so I this review may not be useful to that demographic. I have only used this mouse for roughly 1.5 months and have not had to replace the supplied AAA batteries.
The mouse looks great, in my opinion. My mouse came in matte black, but I'm fairly certain I've seen one in white. The color makes me feel like Batman when I check my email.
I cannot comment on gaming performance or battery life. My only potential gripe about the mouse is that it comes with a USB wireless receiver. If my computer had Bluetooth functionality (which it doesn't because for some reason it hasn't been made standard on all computers yet), I'd probably prefer a Bluetooth mouse. The USB receiver can be stored in a magnetic slot under the mouse. It also comes with a storage pouch. I do not know what the material is made of, but it feels much nicer than the slip material (polypropylene) the Arc Keyboard comes with. The mouse has the standard left and right buttons, a scroll wheel and a third button whose only function I am aware of is 'Back' on a browser. This button is on the left side, which is great for those of us with a dominant right hand. Lefties can screw themselves. This mouse is wireless, which confused my grandma.
The mouse is turned off by folding it in half, like a cell phone from the late 90's.
I have no complaints about this mouse.
Customer Review: Comes with free beer... Summary: 5 Stars
I've read a lot of reviews saying the scroll wheel on this mouse fails, however I've had mine over a year now and it has never given me a second of trouble. In fact, I'm on here now to buy another because I like it so much I want one for the home and one for the office.
As far as the USB receiver goes, it sticks out about 1/2" plugged in, so anyone saying that's too far is just being ridiculous. The receiver stores nicely into the mouse via a magnet and the whole thing folds up to about 2". Battery life is excellent, I use mine 8-12 hrs a day and have changed my batteries once in the last year.
Now, the funniest part....everyone loves the look/feel of this mouse. Even a year later, I still get compliments from people about how "cool" the mouse looks and how good the action is and I must admit, it is the most comfortable and responsive wireless mouse I've ever used. Signal response at an average of 1-3 ft is as consistent as any wired mouse.
I suppose that, like anything, there have got to be bad batches out there and with enough people using them, sooner or later you'll find a dud but I have no hesitation in buying a 2nd mouse and you should have no hesitation in buying your first.
Customer Review: Solid mouse for <$50 Summary: 5 Stars
Pros
------
+Excellent tracking accuracy. I used this mouse for intricate work in Illustrator, and it holds its own.
+Ergonomics are good for me, and I have very large hands
+The most satisfying "click" I've ever felt from a mouse
+Form factor is both attractive and practical
+USB dongle very small, although not the smallest in the industry. It protrudes slightly more than a centimeter.
+Luckily, the USB dongle is magnetic; and the magnetic force is strong enough that I'm not worried about losing it.
Cons
------
-Questionable placement of the lone programmable button. If I had smaller hands, this could be a significant issue
-Runs on 2xAAA batteries, rather than 1xAA battery, like some other mouses. Most likely, the svelte profile of the device necessitated the use of AAA's.
-The minimalistic design means no love for the ring and pinky fingers.
Conclusion
------
For $36, you'd be foolish not to purchase this mouse if you travel with your laptop. One of the best hardware purchases I've made in a while.
Customer Review: More substance than style. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this as a Valentine's Day gift. I wanted to get something different than your usual, generic looking mouse. My personal mouse is a Logitech MX518, a gaming mouse, so that's my frame of reference for this review.
Likes:
- Stylish shape. Makes an impression to friends.
- Laser tracking, 30 ft.
- The mouse feet (the black surface any mouse rides on) is very smooth like my Logitech MX518. Get a mouse pad to complement this.
- Folding ability.
- Magnetic holding area underneath the mouse for the wireless receiver.
- Comfortable.
- Simple plug in and immediately driver starts installing. Didn't bother with Microsoft mouse software.
- Comes with batteries and a little pouch.
Dislikes:
- The thumb button is out of reach making it impractical. My MX518 has two thumb buttons within easy reach. Maybe if you have large hands it'd work.
- Scroll wheel feels small compared to my MX518.
Overall:
- I like this a lot. I wouldn't necessarily use it for gaming, but for non-gamers, it's a great gift and mouse.
