Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (50pk Spindle)

Customer Review: Everything as expected
Summary: 5 Stars

Despite the bad reviews, i was willing to take my chances with these disks.
In my opinion the reviews didn't add up necessarily. It sounds like most of these bad reviews come from know-nothings who feel like they got screwed because of their own lack of knowledge about technology, and didn't think it was necessarily the product itself.

I found no problems at all with these discs, and every single one has worked as expected [thus far, im about half way through them at this point] And i would recommend these to anyone who is searching for some blank Dual layered DVD's :)

Customer Review: Works great at 4X burn rate
Summary: 5 Stars

These are Ritek DVDs, so they should be ok, but they are not. I've been keeping track, and, so far, while backing up movies I own and family videos, out of 47 DVDs, 32 of them have failed to burn and ended up in the trash. Software says "possible bad sectors".

After obtaining software that allowed me to set the burn rate to 4X, I have had 100% success. The other software burned at "maximum speed" - the new software allows me to choose the burn rate, instead of the software choosing for me.

Customer Review: Works Perfect... If you're Intelligent...
Summary: 5 Stars

I have made several DVD movies with these discs as well as other brands... As with blank CD media... you CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT burn at max speed!!! You WILL get coasters if you do. Burn these at 2.4x and you get a perfect burn, usually. The only way you won't is if the software is bad or if the drive itself fails. Some drives, like mine can burn at 4x AND 6x as well... I did not try these speeds, because it worked on the 2.4x speed... If you test out the intermediate speeds on YOUR burner, then go ahead... no promises... but don't do max speed... you are just asking for a coaster...

Customer Review: Great media for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I've now gone through three 50-count spindles of these, with mostly good results. Thanks to free shipping, the average price per spindle is $27.32. The first batch had no bad discs, the 2nd 11 (22% failure rate), and the third 2 (4%). That works out to .56 / .69 / .562 cents per disk per spindle. Not a bad price and much better than the other brands. All my burns used the same app and the data were staged from fast SATA hard drives to a new (11/2010) LITE-ON BD IHBS212 via SATA at the rated 8X speed. I'm reasonable happy with the success rates and just purchased three more spindles.

Customer Review: They work Great! Just limit your burning speed to 8x
Summary: 5 Stars

These discs work great! Just limit your burning speed to 8x.
The first disc I tried to write to failed. I thought I was going to have the same problem as so many others. I had my software's burn speed set at default, which I assume was more than 8x...

...because, when I specifically set the speed to 8x, I have not had a single problem since (I've burned about two dozen discs). I know others reviewing this product have mentioned this as an issue and have gave the same answer - well they are correct! Just limit the write speed and you'll probably be fine.
