Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (50pk Spindle)

Customer Review: I haven't had any problems with these discs
Summary: 5 Stars

For the price these discs are great. I have purchased at least 10 spindles of 50 discs and have not had any failures. Either I am lucky or I suspect that hardware issues may be behind some of the problems. I have a Liteon USB DVD burner and a Samsung internal DVD writer as well and I have had success with either drive. I regularly buy Memorex DL discs and have yet to receive a bad batch and for the price they can't be beat.

Update:

I have successfully burned another several hundred of these discs without a single failure. I agree with some of the other reviewers that those who are without success should check the firmware version and drivers on their hardware. I suspect that older burners are having trouble with 8X discs. Out of close to 1000 discs purchased I have only had 2 or 3 failures. I find it hard to believe that I am just lucky if this were really a production problem or a faulty product.

Customer Review: Memorex 8.5GB 8x Double Layer DVD+R 50pk review
Summary: 5 Stars

Here is my quick review of this media. I was kind of hesitant to purchase this media, seeing how it had so many mixed reviews (some praise with alot of bad reviews). So far I have been pleased with these discs. I've burned 3 discs so far and not a problem for me on my setup. I have followed the advice of others, and I am burning my discs at 4x versus the full rated speed. For the price you can't go wrong. Love how fast Amazon shipped these to me (ordered on Wednesday, received on Thursday). These are my first 8.5GB discs I've ever purchased (I've burned a ton of the regular 4.7GB discs).

For anybody interested, these discs appear to be rebranded Ritek discs (never have had any problem with them). Exact disc ID for the batch I purchased were: RITEK-S04-66

I'm burning these on a Samsung OEM drive: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-203B

Pros:
1-Double Layer DVD+R at 8.5 GB for 58 cents per disc

Customer Review: No problems for me
Summary: 5 Stars

I always see a lot of reviews from various places on various DVD+/-R and DVD-DL with people complaining like crazy about the media.

Usually, it is the person, the burner or the software they are using.

I have never had a problem with various brands like TDK, Sony, Fujitsu, Verbatim, Maxell, or this brand - Memorex.

I have bought this exact brand and package several times over the past 2 years and used the media on various PCs and played in various DVD players. I have not had any problems.

I could guess-timate I have probably had 4 bad burns out of 50. Who's fault is it? Who can say but I can highly recommend any of the brands mentioned above.

One thing I have learned, is that I mostly burn at lower speeds like 8x and not 16x when I need to be careful.

Specifically, this Memorex brand has been fine and you can purchase this without worry.

Customer Review: They work great for me...unless I screw up!!

I'm on my 3rd 50 pack of these DVD+R DL disks. Yes, I've had some "coasters" but it usually turns out to be due to 1) a bad original DVD or 2) trying to do other tasks on my computer when I'm burning a DVD or 3) using too high a write speed (I don't recommend using higher than 2.4x). I use Ashampoo software which burns disks much quicker than the Roxio Nero Burns software, and with less failures. I recommend them because even if I have a few "coasters," on average the per disk price is much less than any other brand. Also, some folks seem to think these are re-branded Ritek DVDs, but at the prices they sell for, I seriously doubt it. A careful shopper can occasionally find these from other sellers for slightly less than on Amazon.com, but I trust Amazon. Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (50pk Spindle)

Customer Review: They work great.
Summary: 5 Stars

Every disc I have burnt so far has worked. The directions for these kinds of things always specifically tell you to turn off all other programs while burning a disc of any sort in order to ensure maximum success rate. If you have something like a 2.8 GHZ Quad Core process, which I am fortunate enough to have, then its not that much of a worry to shut down all active programs, but those with anything less really, really should listen to this advice.

In the past, before said processor upgrade, I would get coasters repeatedly using DVD-R discs because I disregarded the "end other programs" rule. I like someone's comment about this which involved telling your computer to "juggle three plates, while getting yelled at to take out the trash and do the dishes, whilst having a baby, etc etc etc." Such is the life of an active computer. Treat it with respect.
