Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 700MB/80-Minute 52x Data CD-R Media (50-Pack Spindle)Customer Review: Reliable Brand for CD's. Great for Backing up music. Summary: 5 Stars
The primary purpose of these discs I bought were to serve as backup and if my original CD's get ruined, I'll still have a copy. This was apparently a smart decision I made, since one of my CD's just recently got scratched and skips and gets stuck at the middle of a few songs. It's a good thing that I still have another copy.
As for the quality of the CD's, if I had to describe it in one word, it would be reliable. I burned 50 CD's, I get 50 working CD's. This is extremely important because what if some failed, and you never realized that until your original copy died and when you pop in the replacement CD, only to find a nasty surprise waiting for you: the disc not working. That means that you'll have to pay another $10 for another copy of the CD. That has actually happened to me with a few of the Verbatim ones. At first, I though it was a great buy, with 100 of them at only $22. But when I tried to burn them, half of them didn't work. The success rate did get higher when I lowered the burning speed, but that was never an issue with these Memorex discs. Besides, I prefer the design on the Memorex discs anyways...
If I ever decided to buy more CD discs, Memorex is my choice. My only regret is that I bought the 50-pack instead of the 100-packs... The Verbatim incident forced me to be more cautious. I'm definitely buying the 100-packs next time around.
Customer Review: Glitch Free discs, and they work in my car Summary: 5 Stars
The odd thing about CD-R's is that certain manufacturers work in come players, but not in others. When a tech friend first mentioned that to me, I didn't believe it. So here's how it works. I have a regular Kenwood CD player (this does not apply to newer players who are CD-R-RW capable) My Kenwood will accept Memorex CD-R discs without any glitches. Sony's on the other hand don't work. My brother also has a Kenwood CD in his car, and oddly enough the Memorex don't work in his car, but the Sony's do. So even within the same manufacturer, not even the same discs work. So if you have an older player, that is designed to play regular CD's find your manufacturer that works with your player, and load up on them. For me the Memorex works great. Another interesting thing is that my older CDRW drive had a max speed of 6X. Unless I set it to record at only 2X, it would have skips. The new technology is great. I bought a Lite On CDRW which is a 52x32x52x, and it records a full speed without a single skip. So buying discs that run at 52x is a dream. I record a whole album in such a little bit of time, I can't believe it. I never have a skip or any kind of problem with these Memorex discs, and the price here at Amazon is great. So I highly recommend them.
Customer Review: Good for backups, don't go back for ages Summary: 5 Stars
I have to write about these disks because they are really good for backups. I have been using them since the day of x2 speeds back in the 20th century and they they have been storing data like champs. Few of the multitude of disk that I have written have been coasters.
I don't normally use them for music since they tend to scratch a little more than other disks, but if you are going to store your My Documents folder on them, these are a little more pricey than most, but you won't find a better type of disk for the price.
So long as you want a dedicated backup, these are they way to go. If you are going to use them as MP3 CDs I would look towards cheaper CDs.
For the record I use a ancient Yamaha CRW-F1E CD Burner or a Pioneer DVR-105 depending on my moods. At work they seem to work well with my HP Armada laptop.
Customer Review: Very Pleased with Memorex CD-Rs Summary: 5 Stars
Memorex recordable media is consistently trashed by Internet gurus. I've never understood the hatred, as my own experience has been just the opposite. I've been through several spindles of Memorex CD-Rs in the past three years. I've burned one single coaster to date, and that wasn't the fault of the disc--it was me, attempting a direct CD to CD-R copy, which resulted in a buffer underrun error. I've had no problems with Memorex CD-Rs, either during burning or reading. Discs burned in late 2001 are still intact and read beautifully on my system. Amazon's wonderful price only makes the brand more attractive. I know where I'm heading the next time that more are needed--and I just tipped off a friend a few minutes ago.
Customer Review: No Problems Using These! Summary: 5 Stars
Maybe I am just lucky but I have not had any problems using these disks.
They have burned very fast and very dependably so far.
I have used about a third of the 50 disks in making music CDs and 5 or 6 disks to store some data files on. I did this using my TDK 52X CD-RW burner that is in a nearly 4-year old Dell desktop PC.
I have had no burning problems so far. The music CDs I have made with these have played in every electronic device I have tried them in.
It is unfortunate that so many seem to be having trouble with these -- I hope my luck holds out!
Based on my personal experience using them I recommend these without reservation!
