Hi I was looking to update my original review but I cant find it so here goes my review. I ordered this one because there is this one guy who gave a convincing review he got me good, he must work for Maxell because this was the worst $40 I spent in a long time. On top of that when I opened the package the polishing liquid somehow burst & covered the compartment in goo! So I had this piece of junk that seems to only work with the fluid that was all dried up in the compartment the tube was practically empty it had escaped from the seam at the bottom. So I call Maxell & tell them this, and I asked for them to send me a replacement tube because this was totally not my fault, after putting me on hold for a few minutes he says they are going to send me a tube of the polishing liquid, he asks for my information & says I should have it in a week. I even received an email saying I would receive it. Guess what? 2 months later I still havent received anything. I am not even going to follow up with them because this "fixer" has destroyed many of my dvds. The tube had enough liquid left in it to do about 5 dvds & it messed all of them up. They went from being able to be played upto a certain scene, to totally not playable at all. Seriously dont be fooled by that one guy that reviews this thing like a miracle sent from heaven. Straight to the garbage!

I got the unit from the UPS man. I cut open the plastic bubble that contained the unit. I took it out, and plugged it in. I put in a dvd in the repair side, with the pink buffing wheels. It seemed to be working ok. Then, stupid me, i went to take out the pink buffing wheels, to replace them with the blue polishing wheels, and i guess i stripped out the gears. I pushed down on the wheels, but i guess i turned them with too much force. I didn't know that until i put the dvd back in, with the 3 drops of repair fluid, and pressed the "repair" button. It sounded ok, until the motor started really spinning fast. I knew that there was a problem at that point. Soooo, i guess i'll just buy a new one and try it again. I'll be more careful with the next unit. It seems very cheaply made, having to push down on the repair wheels and twist them. That's the way i broke the machine. They should have designed it, like a similiar device made by Aleratec, where you unscrew the buffing/polishing wheels.
Anyway, i heard some good things about the unit, and i have a ton of discs to repair, so i'll just have to buy a new one and be more careful, knowing how easy the gears can be stripped out.

I bought this before some of the other reviews were posted. I had an audio cd that skipped through one song. The cd had a couple of light, very light, scratches. I followed the directions and there was no difference. I tried it three more time and each time the disk was the same. By the fourth time on the same disk the polishing liquid was on the machine so this ment that the disks were not turning properly. After the fourth clean I could see that the disks had a slight glazing on them. So basically, if it worked, which it didn't, I would only get four uses out of the sanding and polishing disk, then would have to replace them. It would have been cheaper to replace the cd!
I agree with another reviewer that there is not enough pressure to do the job properly. I could see no difference, before or after on the disk, the same scratches were still there. The instructions state that when you sand the disk you will see that the disk is dull, my disk was not dull. Save your money, don't buy this product.

Like some other reviewers, I received this from Amazon in a not-too-well padded box, and it was immediately evident that the cleaning fluid - or some other fluid - had leaked all over the inside of the sealed plastic clamshell packaging. Amazon would not accept a return directly, instead referring me to Maxell. I did not contact Maxell, as it was not their fault that the shipping packaging was poor. Amazon, to their credit, refunded my money in the end, and also allowed me to keep the product as they don't carry it directly anymore. I am a 12 year Amazon customer, and have always been incredibly impressed by their conflict resolution process. So, I am stuck with this thing in sealed plastic, frankly afraid to open it because I have no idea what kind of fluid is going to spray out or how toxic it is. This is NOT item that I would recommend having shipped to you, as it is clearly poorly designed for shipping. Try and get one in person somewhere. I regret that I am unable to review the functionality for the above reasons.Customer Review: Junk

Actually I want to post two reviews:
1. First...... this piece of junk is completely useless... it uses sanding papers that actually so fine that doesn't remove any scratches.... Then the polishing pads that don't do any actual polish because the original scratches and the sanding paper scratches couldn't be removed.... And then the cleaning pads that has the same role as the cleaning cloth... so no need for all the noise and time to clean using the cleaning side and pads...
The sanding papers were worn out after using for less than 10 times (for 2 DVDs... i.e. each DVD needs 5 times to run at the sanding paper side) and no repair happens. May be my kids' DVDs are too much scratched.... But I tried it on many DVDs... it was useless.
2. Second but MOST IMPORTANT is I want to give "RITZ CAMERA" 5 stars for their extra high quality costumer services.... Because they refunded me the whole machine's price and didn't want to get their machine back..... thank you RITZ CAMERA
