Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Maxell DSR-I Pro Disc FixerCustomer Review: Seems Good to Me Summary: 5 Stars
I used this unit to repair a DVD that was skipping. I found the unit easy to use and able to do the job. The DVD no longer skips. The pads and fluids are supposed to last for about 100 CDs, DVDs etc. One side does the repair work and the other cleans. It is okay to just use the cleaning mode. The price is great considering how much it would cost to replace 100 CDs or DVDs.
Customer Review: Great Money Saver Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this in hopes it would fix my 3 year old ds' scratched DVDs. They've been dropped, scratched, and manhandled too many times. It worked. I was amazed. I did have to run one DVD twice but it now works great. No skipping or stopping. Highly recommend this product.

This is a nice machine. Not hard to use, with switching of cleaner disks. It does the job of cleaning and repairing subject problems. But if your disc drive can't read or write to the disc. It not because of the surface problem.

Greatest disc cleaner available. It takes out the most scracthed up discs with 3 easy steps. Can be used many times before having to change the cleaning pads. Easy instructions makes it very easy to use.
Customer Review: Notes from OldTechnohobbiest Summary: 4 Stars
I just got mine in the mail (three days after I ordered it!). Anyway, after using that 'cursed' Automax (Skip Doctor under a different name), anything was a step up...(put a double sided disk through one and you'll see what I'm talking about).
So here the the PROS and CONS, my test, and the bottomline results and ratings.
1. Yeal, it looks a whole lot better than skip doc--no star.
2. Light shade of gray...is three units in one, sander/scratch remover, polisher/buffer, and disk cleaner/it also buffs some...--One Star.
3. Plugs in--no batteries needed. (finally somebody figured out we're not made of money just to buy batteries!)One Star.
4. Seems to do the job--Two Stars. (this is the most important stars).
5. There are addition pads in the back of the unit--One Star, barely.
TEST: Two disk, one a used DVD movie, (minor and three barely medium scratches--all within one square inch space...it's easier to keep an eye on them and to see how the sanding effects them if I don't have to hunt around the disk for them. The second disk is a brand new blank CD disk.
Test One: New CD disk, no blimishes, ran through sander twice, I checked the surface--swirl marks from the sanding are apparent, disk no longer has the pretty 'rainbow' effect it use to, now seems to have several disk size haloes. (SANDING PADS WILL SAND NO CLOSER THAN 1/4 inch TO THE EDGE OF DISK) minus one half a star.
Test Two: Polished CD disk twice. Swirls not as apparent, but still exist. If looking 'across' the surface they are almost invisible, but if holding the disk as if it were a mirror (and looking at yourself) the swirls are still obvious--but not as much.
Test Three: Cleaned CD disk twice. Cleaned up nicely.
CHANGE TO DVD DISK:
Test One: Almost a dozen minor/lite scratches, all located in a one square inch area--three medium scratches. Five cycles through the sander were needed for the minor scratches to become 'almost' invisible while looking 'across' the disk. While using the disk like a mirror--with the light behind me--scratches are still apparent but greatly faded. Medium scratches appear faded greatly. Sanding pads still are going no closer than 1/4 inch to the edge of the disk--scratches there are untouched and obvious. The part of the scratchs, which has been sanded, is 'obviously' diminished.
Test Two: Polished DVD disk twice. All, still existing scratches, appear to have little depth. Sanding marks, though still visible, have diminished.
Test Three: DVD disk was cleaned twice. Apparently did an obviously fine job of cleaning.
CONS:
1. Sanding will get no closer than 1/4 inch to the edge. Those of you with DVD's that won't even start because of scratches on the edge, might think twice.
All in all--I like it and can suggest no more improvements for the model than to extend the size of the sanding/polishing pads so they will sand and polish to the edge of the disk. (That's why I've gave it 4 1/2 stars). Futhermore, my cleaning fluid was not leaking when mine arrived so maybe they fixed that problem--good! Maybe they read some of your reviews. "Don't touch pads" while installing or removing other pads? FORGET IT!
So here is my bottom line--I recommend this product, I give it 4 1/2 stars, and will hold onto mine until a better product replaces it.
BYE!
