Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Magellan Maestro 4250 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Purchased Three 4250's Summary: 5 Stars
In June I purchased my referbished unit. It performed so well, I purchased one for my Grand Daughter a few months later. She is very happy with it, so I recently purchased one for my Son.
I particulary like the bluetooth, being able to speak commands to it, anouncing the street names and the chime when I reach my next turn.
I have found new and better routs to places that I have been going to for years. I travel around the Blue ridge mountains some. It sometimes takes me on up, down and crooked roads. It evedently does not know if a road is good or bad. I have learned not to rely on it in the mountains.
I just updated the map (Spring 2009 version), in mine with no problems. It was duck soup. Simply insert the card, turn the unit on and push the reset button. The new map has more and updated points of interest. I have not gone on a long trip, so can't comment on road changes. Just purchased an update for my Son, and will install it this weekend. I will probably get one for my Grand Daughter. I foung great prices on them at Amazon. Saved about $30.00 each.
I had some problems with my Son's unit, and Magellan was punctual and very good to work with.
Customer Review: Great GPS Summary: 5 Stars
This being my first gps I had researched several products before I decided on the 4250. The 4250 had the features I wanted, with the best price through Amazon at Beach Camera. After I had read the negative reviews the first thing I did when I received the unit was to register it and upgrade the firmware. Being a AAA member I received a warranty extension and I upgraded the tour book information as well. After using the trip planner on my vacation and having the destinations preprogrammed was a big time saver. I have no complaints with the routing accuracy. When I had to change my route due to traffic or construction, the routing recalculation was fast and accurate. The satellite signal was readily available and had no problems there either. I used the POI's daily and found them to be very accurate and extremely helpful. This feature really did save me a lot of extra miles, and aggravation. The text to speech feature requires a certain tone of voice to activate it, and could use some improvement. If I were to offer one negative it would be that the USB cable was too short for easy use.
I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone wanting a GPS with these features.
Customer Review: Great Product - I will never leave home without it Summary: 5 Stars
My first experience with GPS was in a rental car with the Hertz Never Lost System (this is also a Magellan product), and I liked it so much that I just had to have one of these. The 4250 comes with a nice carrying case and it fits nicely in your pocket. I have used it now for 5 weeks and would highly recommend it to anyone. I travel about 30,000 miles a year by car in my job and I need to find new customer locations regularly. This 4250 is so much nicer than having to print out Mapquest directions from the computer before every trip. It is so intuitive to operate that I did not even have to read the directions. I just put it in the car and started using it. The AAA 6 million points of interest is a great feature and has helped me find restaurants and hotels on numerous occasions. The 4.3 inch screen is very clear and easy to see in both day and night conditions. I looked at Garmin GPS products, but did not really need the MP3 and some of the other additional features that Garmin adds on along with their higher price. If you are looking for a great GPS product and don't need the extra stuff and extra cost offered by Garmin, then the Magellan Maestro 4250 is the way to go.
Customer Review: Exactly what I expected! Summary: 5 Stars
My only prior experience with a GPS was a factory installed GPS on a newer vehicle. This was my first free-standing GPS. The unit I received also included what is listed as optional equipment on Amazon's item description page - both the indoor, 120V, power adapter and the USB connector cord to link the unit with a computer.
The unit works well, locks on to satellite signals within a few minutes when you initially power it up, or if you have moved it from one location to another with the power off. There is virtually no lock-on delay if you power it up in the same location where you turned it off. I like the ability to take it into the hotel and program the next day's itinerary - including AAA POIs. I have found the battery to last a few hours in such situations.
The only things that I have had to get used to is sometimes "bouncing" my fingers on the touch screen resulting in a double click or typing the same alphabet letter twice. I would have also preferred a QWERTY set up for typing rather than alphabetical order, but I'm getting used to it now.
I'd certainly recommend this to others.
Customer Review: I tried 3 and this is my favorite. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought 3 gps units about a year and a half ago. I kept the Magellan and gave the Garmin and the Tom Tom away. However I wanted to try out the other two so I could compare. The Magellan to me seemed by far the easist to use to enter an address.
I live in Vegas which has had alot of new builds the last few years. So far I have no complaints and the Magellan does a decent job getting me to where I need to go. It does send me out of the way to my own address but it does get me home. I have taken the Magellan to 4 different states and each time i get to where I am going.
There are not a lot of bells and whistles to this GPS. The POI are the lowest total of any of the GPS I tried, but really how important is it to be able to find the nearest McDonalds? The voice is straightforward...ie turn in a 1/4 of a mile, but it is easy to understand and I dont really see a need to pay more so the GPS can name the street I am turning on.
If you dont want to get lost, and want a GPS that is basic and really easy to use I suggest the Magellan Maestro.
