Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Magellan Maestro 4250 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Navigates well Summary: 5 Stars
I've only used this for about a week so far and the furthest drive only took me one state down, however, so far I am mighty pleased! I had read that sometimes google maps and mapqwest and such would give better routes, so the first thing I did was check Magellan's routes against those online maps and it did fine.
I chose the Magellan because I got to use an older model that belonged to a friend of mine. It came in extremely handy when exploring and unfamiliar part of Florida while I was on vacation. So far this newer model seems like it will do just as well. The points of interest feature is fantastic, though sometimes it's a little weird getting it to find some places. I'm still learning the kinds of places it doesn't know (I couldn't get it to find REI but it knew where the nearest Korean market was), but it finds stuff right away most times.
I really dig the split screen that comes up when you're about to make a turn so that you know what KIND (eg. is the road about to fork, is a slight left a lane change or a weird offshoot, etc.) of turn as well as when.
I have not used the traffic thing because, really, I don't care... I just want to get places, and the thing reroutes just fine if traffic looks nasty and I want to take a different route.
Customer Review: The Maestro 4250 ROCKS! Summary: 5 Stars
OK...I will admit I am not someone with extensive GPS experience...but it was that limited experience with the original Hertz NEVERLOST in rental cars that kept me in the house of Magellan. I guess one might say I stayed within my comfort zone. This unit does everything I need and then some! I don't have a single complaint with any of the features I have used so far, and I can say I probably have just scratched the surface of its capabilities.
I did read some of the negative remarks here before I purchased. When it arrived, I immediately updated the firmware to the latest version and took advantage of the free NAVTEQ subscription. I also extended the warranty for a year by registering my AAA membership with Magellan. To date I have experienced ZERO anomalies with the unit. Everything works just fine. I will admit it's voice recognition for verbal commands is a little clunky, requiring repeating at different volumes or speeds of speach. It would be cool if we could program the thing to our own voices like cell phones...maybe some day.
I'll say one more thing...if AMAZON steers you towards 6AVE you wont find a lower price anywhere...at least I haven't yet. And it arrived promptly via DHL.
Medium story short: Couldn't be happier.
Customer Review: Excellent unit! Summary: 5 Stars
I spent 3 months researching GPS units. I had a Garmin C330, and my major issues with this unit were satelite reception/aquisition. Tried Garmin, TomTom and Magellan. It came down to the Magellan Maestro 4250 vs the Garmin Nuvi 680. I only use my GPS once or twice a month, so my purpose was finding an affordable unit that had bluetooth, text to speech and live traffic updates. Was not necessary to spend the extra $100 on the Garmin. This unit is the best around for $250!
Pros: Live traffic works well, although have only used this feature twice. bluetooth works great for me. Others have complained about low speaker volume. I do not have this issue. Phone is loud and clear to me. Satelite acqusition is VERY quick. reception is top notch. Wide, bright screen, intuitive menu. Have found that it is very accurate. Text to speech feature is great. split screen direction feature. And Exit POI is great, WITH PHONE NUMBERS! Free year of traffic updates
Cons: Large, awkward mount. the unit shows that you are located before the raod even when you have passed it. (not a deal breaker, the chime sounds when you need to turn), sometimes need to turn it on twice.
I would definately recommend this unit. I feel it is the best around for a bargain price!
Customer Review: Excellent Value for the money! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been looking to buy a decent GPS for quite sometime and researched a few along the way. This is by far the BEST deal I have seen. Good NAVTEQ map, intelligent routing, crisp Bluetooth hands free calling, handy AAA tourbook and a Traffic FM (I have not tried this service so cannot give my opinion here). Very fast Satellite lock in, quick response, and the right graphics for the purpose. The SayWhere tech too is also very friendly with accurate pronunciations and does not feel robotic as many similar technologies do.
I would have loved to have - customizable voice menu, including a call Home feature at the minimum.
This is the Luxury version GPS available for less!
(This review is for the Refurbished product - that I found to be no different than the "new" one except the Box has Refurbished on it and also the warranty was 90 days _ I bought the 2 year extended plan for 25 USD and still came much cheaper than the TomToms and the Garmins that provide exactly the same features. I bought it with an extra Amazon Gold Deal discount! Magellan Maestro 4250 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished))
Customer Review: Very good GPS Summary: 5 Stars
I bought Magellan 4250 from Costco last week and so far I am quite happy with it. I have taken it to San Francisco and Lake Tahoe and I was quite impress with it's performance. It has built in traffic status and will detour based on the accidents ahead (customizable). While coming back from Lake Tahoe it suddenly detour us to an unknown exit and came back to same highway after 6 miles. I was very annoyed because it didn't make sense but when I dial into the traffic advisory on 1610 I was amazed because there was a traffic accident back there and traffic was stalled for more than couple of hours. So this feature was quite handy for me. I also liked the AAA tourbook because it saved me some money. It has very updated POI because on the way back we dined in one of the restaurant which was open only ~1 year back. Finding location and creating maps are fast. This unit has bluetooth but I never used it so far. Since this is my first GPS so I don't have any thing to compare with. Overall I am very happy with it.
The only minor annoying feature of this unit is its voice activated commands. It activates when you say "Magellan". While on my way each time I said "Magellan" it activated and asking us to choose any of the given commands.
