This is my first GPS. I wanted something simple and easy to use. The 4000 fit my needs perfectly. I received it just in time for my trip to NY and CT. I was not familiar with the highways I would be travelling and needed a navigator. I didn't take any paper maps on this trip. The screen is just the right size and it has excellent clarity. One feature I love is the voice that gives me advance notice of an upcoming turn and the chime that signals I have reached my turn. If I miss my turn it gives me an automatic re-route. When you press the home icon, the GPS will show you the way so you will always be able to make it back to the nest. It works great. I purchased the Magellan Maestro 4000 to use on vacation. We traveled from south of New Orleans to Gatlinburg. The machine worked great and really kept me on track. It announces when you are 2 miles from an intersecting highway or your destination, when you are 1/2 mile from it, then pings when you reach the intersection, or when you have reached your destination it announces that. The Maestro also tells you to stay in the lane you are traveling in or which lane to get in.
I used it to go everywhere on vacation and it never was wrong. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a GPS unit.

I just purchased a second unit to give my husband. He gave me a hard time about buying one in the first place but after using it while on vacation this summer (in Arizona) he agrees that it completely saved our trip. We were able to rerout easily and it helped us judge time and distance between long distance sites.
Now, he is getting one for an early birthday present before our travel soccer season starts with the two of us going different directions with our kids each weekend.
I highly suggest this unit. It was easy to program, find alternate routes and keep us able to enjoy our trips!

we first tried magellan gps in Scotland and Ireland in a rental car...we explored the countryside and never got lost....if we verved off the highway route it just brought us back on track...love the large screen, 4.2or3, so I purchased the magellan for my husband's birthday in January and received it and carrying case on time....love Amazon for all our purchases as it arrives on time and are easily reached via phone if a question or problem....our friends tried Tom Tom and Garman gps and seem to have more problems to our none.....
