Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Magellan Maestro 3220 3.5-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Not so bad after all... Summary: 4 Stars
I had waited to purchase this until I found just the right one for my needs (maps of U.S., Canada, and Mexico). I appreciate the easy installation, the easy and clear directions that it gives, and its' size.
I had read up on the product more AFTER I had purchased it and realized I would have to update the maps in addition to the purchase (it does not come with the most current maps!) Though I was frustrated with having to order the update and then thinking I had ordered the wrong update for the product I had purchased, my experience with the technical support people was VERY helpful. He assured me that it was just marked wrong and that I did indeed have the correct update. He then assisted me by phone in installing it over the internet. It was really easy. I found the support people very helpful...unlike the reviews I had read about. I enjoy my product and would recommend it to anyone nervous about driving in big cities...it is great.
Customer Review: Service is much improved Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this unit because it was on sale. I already had a Crossover and loved the actual gps, but like so many others, had lots of problems dealing with the company. This time was very different. I called the support number to check on the map update guarantee, and was promptly given all the info I needed. They even allowed me to use a forwarded email from amazon as proof of purchase. Ten dollars and only two days later I had a new map update in the mailbox. Update went smoothly and everything works fine. My only complaint is that the screen contrast is not quite as vivid as my previous gps, making it a little harder to see on sunny days. I am hoping that a shade will help.
Customer Review: Magellan Maestro 3220 is nice Summary: 4 Stars
I all ready had a Megellan GPS. This one is nice because it has Mexico maps. It is also smaller than my other unit so it can be carried in the hand when I am not in a car. I don't know how the Mexico maps work yet. So I will update my review when I get back from my trip in June 2010.
Customer Review: Worth the money Summary: 4 Stars
At first, I wasn't too sure that it would help, since I wanted it for travel when going to AZ. Needless to say, I was happy to have it. Also, I really like the compact size so that I can carry in my purse.
Customer Review: User Friendly but Routing is Faulted Summary: 2 Stars
I updated the firmware and ordered the latest 2009 Spring map before I tested this unit. The sound volume is barely loud enough and can be better. The screen color is kind of washed and difficult to see in daytime. Here I am comparing functions of the Magellan to my 3 years old off brand GPS with Text-to-Speech.
Pros: 1. Very easy to make entries for destinations
2. Much better POI
3. Very cheap for a branded unit
Cons: 1. Routing is odd. I tested my 7 miles trip from home to work. No matter what routing options I picked, the direction was always the a long city route even though the freeway was just next to it.
2. Text-to-Speed was very busy especially at tight turns, making the feature very annoying at times. Occasionally, the speech would stop when a few turns happened within a short distance. Confusing.
3. No indication of destination to your left or right at times.
Summary: I highly recommend this unit for the exceptional cost to feature ratio (if you can get it cheap). Routing may be odd in some cases but accurate. Very Good no frill unit.
