I'll be honest, I was a little reluctant to purchase this kind of warranty from MACK as I had no prior experience from them and I had to ship out my camera (instead of simply bringing it to a place like Best Buy). My warranty contract with them was put to the test when the lens on my trusty Canon Powershot S5 IS began failing to retract with an error message saying "lens error". After pulling out my warranty, I had to follow several steps which were easy to accomplish (e.g. filling out a form, making copies of your receipt, etc). Please note to buyers that you are expected to pay for shipping to and from MACK. Thus, I paid about $20 to ship with insurance and $10 to have it shipped back. Shortly after shipping it, I received a confirmation email with information on how to check the status of my repair through their website (wow!). My camera was returned to me GOOD AS NEW in no more than 2 weeks time.
Again, you are expected to pay for shipping to and from MACK. But considering the service that you will get on your equipment, this is a VERY small price to pay compared to the regular fee of a repair which could run you at LEAST $100 or more. In total, I paid no more than the price of a couple of large pizzas. Now, I understand that you can get similar service from SquareTrade and get free shipping for most equipment and no transfer fee ($20 to transfer a MACK contract). However, you do pay more dollars upfront with their warranties than with MACK, plus their warranties for refurbished items are only one year compared to MACK warranties which can cover BOTH new and refurbished products for the same amount of years on the contract. So I guess it evens out in the end.
6 months later, my camera was still doing well after the repairs. When it was time for me to upgrade and sell it, it was easy to transfer the warranty: The buyer or seller simply sends MACK a letter with a $20 transfer fee. This really adds resell value to your equipment! Great people at MACK! They delivered exactly what was promised.
Description of Mack 3-Year Professional Digital Camera Extended Warranty Service Plan3 Year Still Digital Warranty (Under $500) The equipment registered below is warranted to operate properly according to manufacturer's specifications for a period of 3 additional years after expiration of manufacturer's warranty or we shall repair same to operate properly. In the event that this equipment requires any repairs or service it must be delivered post paid with warranty#, the owner's name and address, proof of purchase and description of difficulties encountered to Mack Camera & Video Service, 200 Morris Ave., Springfield, N.J. 07081 with a check for $10.00 for shipping and handling in the continental U.S. (cost subject for overseas shipping to be determined) or Call (973) 467-2291 or 800-252-MACK (outside of N.J) for a U.P.S. Call Tag. For international inquires contact us at international@mackcam.com. The equipment will be restored to proper operating condition at no charge to you (this includes all warranted parts and labor.) Such service, repair or adjustment of the equipment is assured the original purchaser only, provided the equipment has not been, misused, tampered with, modified or damaged as a result of accident, water, grit, impact, physically broken parts or or lack of proper care as indicated in the manual of operations. This limited warranty is transferable for a $20.00 administrative fee. Mack Camera & Video Service reserves the right to terminate warranty contracts if invoices are not paid according to terms, and not valid until after receipt of payment from dealer. This limited warranty applies only to the product specified herein. It does not cover accessory flashes, LCD's (covered for manufacturer defects) interchangeable lenses, batteries, power adapter, digital media, software, and additional accessories or other expenses or consequential damages. Retain this portion of our contract, it is your proof of ownership. You will be required to present it for service.
