Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Macally USB Slim Keyboard - ICEKEYCustomer Review: Great keyboard-long time user Summary: 5 Stars
I've had a MacAlly ICEKEY for at least three years in a set up with an external monitor for my MacBookPro (my primary work computer). Others have mentioned a solution to the gaining full functionality for some of the keys at the top, so I won't go into that. I will say that with more than 3 years of heavy use, the keyboard works as well today as when I first purchased it (which is excellent, btw). I like the tactile feel of the keys as they are pressed. One reviewer says it feels flimsy. Maybe if you are using it as a baseball bat, but not as a keyboard. Now that I've purchased an external monitor for use at home, I'm purchasing another ICEKEY for that set up also. Now if only MacAlly would reintroduce the QBALL! Luckily I purchased a two extra at a great price when they were closing them out.
Customer Review: Macally ICEKEY USB slim keyboard Summary: 5 Stars
I had an Apple keyboard that went bad because of dust and moisture and went to the Apple Store to replace it. Theirs was too expensive and didn't have a low enough profile to keep clean to keep the same problem from happening again. The Macally ICEKEY USB slim was just what I was looking for and had a price tag I couldn't turn down. I have been totally pleased with the ICEKEY and would recommend it to anyone. It allowed me to use my old mouse (USB plugable to either side) and was USB plugin ready and also programable for special key set up if I so desired with accompanying CD software. Although not water resistant as all keyboards should be at this point in time it is a great alternative to Apples lagging design. It solved pretty much all my problems at a great price and I'm glad I bought it.
Customer Review: The best keyboard for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I seriously couldn't find another keyboard under $30 that is nearly as good, and I tried very hard. I do already have a better keyboard (Logitech illuminated USB keyboard) for my main computer, but it cost almost 3 times as much, and I didn't want to spend that much a secondary computer.
So I bought the ICEKEY, even though I knew it was for Mac and would not be fully compatible with Windows. It works mostly fine with Windows 7 which recognized the keyboard immediately without requiring installing any drivers. But the four media keys don't work. They simply don't have any response, so key-remapping would not work.
But as a basic keyboard, this is as good as it gets. Very high quality. The keys feel superbly comfortable and quiet. The appearance doesn't hurt either.
Customer Review: 4th Icekey over almost 6 years.. nuff Said Summary: 5 Stars
I just purchased my 4th Icekey (in black) to replace my second one that I was using w/ a docking station on my laptop. My first icekey met it's demise when it got wet (the circuit is printed on acetate and will run if it gets wet; bye-bye keyboard), but I was undeterred and got a second one. I bought a 3rd one when I lost a key after moving. I originally got the icekey right when it came out because I loved the ibook keyboard so much and I have never looked back. There is not a better keyboard on the market. I looked at apple's newest keyboards and found that they offered too much resistance (the only Apple keyboards I liked were the original macintosh/Apple IIGS keyboards and the Apple Adjustable Keyboard).
I encourage you to go to a store and try this keyboard. A+++
Customer Review: Works with Bootcamp for older Intel iMacs... Summary: 5 Stars
I have a "20 Intel Core Duo (white) iMac, bought in '06. I had used Bootcamp with older Apple keyboards (Bluetooth and wired), and everything worked just fine.
About a year ago I uninstalled Bootcamp to free up space. I reinstalled it a few weeks ago, using the new Apple Keyboard. To my dismay, I could not use the standard key command of holding down [Option] while booting up to select my boot drive. It turns out this is a documented flaw wherein power isn't sent to the Keyboard until after the crucial moment in bootup.
I purchased this Macally keyboard specifically to work with Bootcamp on my Mac, and it performs beautifully. I'm happy to say the feel of the keys is even better than that of the Apple Keyboard.
Great product!
