Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Macally USB Slim Keyboard - ICEKEY

Customer Review: Light touch, robust , just what I needed
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted keys requiring the least amount of pressure, and found it in this keyboard. My other keyboard is a PowerBook G4, and I needed to replace a Dell PC keyboard that had a lot of key resistance: an apparently light touch but a lot of mushiness on the way down. In contrast, the IceKey requires a firm touch to get the key moving, but the resistance seems to decrease after that. I understand the hardware is a different type from other keyboards which might be described this way--and I think it is a huge improvement over a certain "portable" USB keyboard I picked up that required me to point my fingertips down at the key to get this effect. The IceKey is robust enough that I can strike the keys from almost any angle and get the same pleasant feel. It's a pleasant feel because with this keyboard my pain problems have gone away--it might work for you too as part of an overall strategy.

Customer Review: I wanted a PowerBook / MacBookPro type keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

What I wanted to find (and spent several hours searching for) was a keyboard that was identical to the MacBookPro keyboard. A friend told me that he was looking for the same thing, and that he had read that the Macally ICEKEY was the closest thing. After reading all the positive reviews I decided to risk the $40.

I'm very pleased. Not only does the keyboard look good, but it feels great. My old Apple keyboard was like typing in quicksand. The long stroke lengths quickly wore my fingers to exhaustion. I love the firm but shallow stroke length - not perfect, but very similar to a MacBookPro keyboard.

The other thing I was pleased to find out is that the keys easily pop on and off. This is a nice touch because my family types on a Dvorak layout (may God curse QWERTY) and so I was able to arrange the keys properly.

For the price, this is a very nice keyboard.

Customer Review: Perfect
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this to replace a wireless keyboard that I was having problems using with my Mac Mini. I wasn't sure if the mini's USB ports were failing (which happened when I first got it) or if it was an issue with the keyboard & mouse being wireless. Sure enough, I replaced the wireless ones with this & a cheap leftover dell mouse, and everything is working perfectly. As for the keyboard itself, it's specifically a mac keyboard (not just a windows keyboard that is compatible with a mac), is attractive and has very soft-touch keys. I can't stand keyboards that require a lot of force to push each key; I'm a programmer and I want the keyboard to work as quickly as I do -- this one fits the bill just fine. Nice & quiet, too. It's pretty long though; I'm used to a compact laptop keyboard, so having a full-size keyboard with the dedicated numeric keypad on the right takes a little getting used to.

Customer Review: Good, springy, compact, and durable keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this as a replacement for the default Apple keyboard that came with my eMac. I am very please with this purchase. (Please bear in mind while reading that taste in keyboards can differ significantly between individuals.) I find this keyboard comfortable to use, with springy yet firm keys. The compact design is well thought-out and is done without sacrificing usability. The cord that comes with the keyboard is very long (I never measured, but I would guess around 3 or 4 feet), which can be very useful for some setups. Additionally, the keyboard has lasted for almost three years now in a house that has always had at least one toddler occasionally banging away at it. The only downside to the keyboard is that when it gets dirty it is a huge pain to clean. Speaking from experience *ahem*, I would recommend NEVER eating near this keyboard. All in all, a very solid purchase.

Customer Review: Top notch keyboard - lets your fingers fly!
Summary: 5 Stars

Folks, I was just about ready to toss my Apple keyboard out the window because of its slow character, error-prone typing, and tendency to collect dirt everywhere. Then I read about this keyboard, and based on the reviews, decided to give it a try. Now I'm typing at lightning speed with almost no errors, and I feel I can finally express myself almost at the speed of thought!

As a professional writer, I spend a lot of time at the computer, and it's important I have a keyboard I like and which allows me to type at speed without glancing at my fingers. This one does the job.

Not sure why it's called "Ice-key" unless it's because it's white, but whatever, I recommend this keyboard to everyone who's sick of their original Mac keyboard's shortcomings.

Can't praise it highly enough!
