Customer Review: Nothing new to report on this excellent keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

Everyone else has probably already mentioned everything worth mentioning about this keyboard, but Amazon just sent me an email asking me to review this product, and I think it deserves another 5-star review.

I'm a programmer by day and a programmer by night, so naturally I need a great keyboard to keep from going insane or dying from RSI. I've tried a lot of them, believe me.

The icekey's flat design, minimal key travel, and solid tactile response work in concert to reduce typing stress. When typing feels this good, who needs one of those so-called "ergo keyboard" (you know, those weird shaped split keyboards that take up your entire desk)? I bought one for home use, then quickly bought another for the office.

My only niggle is the strange blank key that does nothing. Hardly enough to keep me from buying another one if one of mine dies, or if I had another computer that needed a keyboard. I wish the price of comfort was this low in other parts of my life.

Customer Review: Probably as close to perfect as it gets
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought one of these in 2002. Aside from having used it so much that some of the lettering has worn off a few of the keys, that keyboard is still going strong. However, when I recently upgraded from a Powerbook G4 to an Intel-based iMac, the keyboard didn't work properly. I contacted MacAlly and was told that the firmware in the keyboard was too old to work with Intel machines, and no firmware upgrades are available. Since I am continuing to use the Powerbook G4, I decided to keep the old Icekey keyboard with it and get a new Icekey keyboard for the new iMac.

Before I bought the new keyboard, however, I did an extensive market survey of all the other keyboard options available. The result: I bought another Icekey, which works just fine with the Intel-based iMac.

The only way this keyboard could be improved is if the USB ports supported USB 2.0. And the keyboard itself is so wonderful, I can live without the USB 2.0 ports.

Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Perfect after I tried ALL other keyboards. The best keyboard for Macintosh.
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered several keyboards and mice combos, first I tried the Logitech keyboard and mouse combo for Macintosh, then them Slim keyboard by Keningston. The Kensington keyboard is really good however, it's cramped, and is lower quality that the icekey. Really the Kenington keyboard is good but it has extra mystery keys that do not make sense. and seems that it would not hold up very well. the logitech keyboard and mouse combo was HORRIBLE it was such low quality that I returned it after using it for about 8 or 9 minutes- I wouldn't even consider using this on a computer that you have any respect for- the mouse was really light weight, plastice was creaky, and overall it was just junk.
the ice key is solid, while the key action on the kenisigton is better and feels good-- the icekey is built well and has a very high quality feel - it's very comparable to the keyboard on a laptop.Take it from someone that purchased EVERYTHING. This keyboard is much better.

Customer Review: Macally Icekey keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

Like most of the reviews here, I bought this because I couldn't justify the cost of a new Apple keyboard. I set up my old MacBook as my desktop and local server. I bought a ViewSonic monitor, and just wanted a simple slim keyboard with numeric pad. This one works nicely.

As others have noted, the keys feel like what I remember my iBook keys feeling like. They don't feel too hard, and yet not too soft. The spacing feels natural. I didn't bother using the CD that came with it, but rather downloaded the latest driver from the manufacturer's website. The eject and volume keys work, as does F14 and F15 for display brightness. As someone else noted, the caps lock and power LEDs illuminate, but I have no idea what illuminates the number lock LED. Doesn't matter, I don't need it. And, most importantly, I think, is it has a long USB cord unlike the last Apple keyboard I had.

It's simple, inexpensive, and it works for me.

Customer Review: Scissors switches!
Summary: 5 Stars

My last two keyboards were fairly expensive cordless models. The keys slid up and down in holders. I preferred the Apple ADB keyboards I had before them.

From the start, the Icekey made touch typing easier than with any other keyboard I remember. The Icekey supports each key with a scissors mechanism that allows consistent tactile feedback no matter how it's pressed, and it's probably less vulnerable than a sliding key to dirt. The keys need be pushed only 3mm. This reduces the risk of catching the edge of an adjacent key.

The Icekey does not have bigger key faces than other keyboards, but when I type they feel bigger because hitting a key near the edge works as well as hitting it in the center. That makes touch typing easier.

The Icekey takes less desk space than my last two keyboards because they had two dozen "bells and whistles" buttons and wheels. Who needed those buttons?
