Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Macally USB Slim Keyboard - ICEKEYCustomer Review: I ADORE this Keyboard! Summary: 5 Stars
This keyboard is fabulous...I bought it to replace the keyboard that came with my eMac...a MacPro I believe, and it is much more enjoyable to use along with being more functional too. The keys are soft and flat, but they make a clickity sound when pushed, so that you know you hit the key instead of just 'mooshing' over it. The keys are spaced perfectly, I can type MUCH faster and more comfortably than on the Mac keyboard. I am currently using it on my eMac with OS 10.4.8 and the driver that came with the keyboard enabled the use of the 'mac' keys (eject, volume up, down, mute). The only warning i must give is that if you hook your new keyboard up before you 'eject' with your old keyboard you will not be able to get the driver in unless you reboot holding down control to open the disc drawer. I hooked my IceKey up very anxiously, and had to do this so that i could get the driver installed to enable the 'eject' key. No biggie but kind of annoying...only for a few minutes though, then you are golden :o) I would recommend this keyboard to anyone for sure, I do everything from Graphic Design, to typing long papers, to cruising the internet and this is great for all my needs (2 USB ports too!).
Customer Review: LOVE IT!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this keyboard in February of 2007 from Amazon to replace the white Apple keyboard that came with my iMac. The Apple keyboard was far to "mushy" with absolutely no tactile feedback to suit me. Result: many typing errors.
This keyboard has been a jewel. Very nice tactile feel/feedback with just a slight click sound. My typing is much more accurate with the IceKey. If you like a short throw keyboard then you'll love this one.
I even use it when running Windows XP under Parallels on my iMac. It works great, even the "extra" Mac only keys. It also works fine in BootCamp except that the 4 Mac specific keys are non-functional.
Lastly, the "build" quality is simply superb!
And if you're worried if it will work in Leopard, don't. I called MacAlly and they confirmed that there is no problem with Leopard and this keyboard. One last kudo. MacAlly actually has a real person who answers the phone and she is very nice and polite. She answered after only 3 rings and put me through to tech Support, who answered in less than 10 seconds.
All in all, a very "class" act.
Excellent company. Excellent product.
Customer Review: Excellent keyboard, easy on your hands Summary: 5 Stars
I'm totally sold on this keyboard. I love it so much that I keep a spare. Another reviewer mentioned problems with the software under Panther, but I haven't seen ANY problems with either Jag or Panther. It has the Apple media keys, so you can open and close your optical drives from the keyboard.
I use mine at home, but I used it briefly at the office when I first got it. Two of my co-workers (who have to use Windows) tried my iceKey and liked it so much that they immediately got iceKeys to replace the awful Dell keyboards they'd been using.
Very little pressure is required to type on these low travel, springy keys. The keys are broad and flat and easy to hit (or harder to miss, for those of us whose typing skills aren't great). It's far more comfortable to use than the majority of keyboards I've looked it. If you don't tend to whack the keys when typing, you'll find it's pretty quiet, especially compared to the Matias Tactile Pro, which feels good to type on, but is very clacky and noisy in comparison. In just about any setting, quiet is definitely better.
I'll keep buying these as long as they keep making them.
Customer Review: Really great Keyboard - almost comparable to Logitech DiNovo Summary: 5 Stars
I use 2of these Keyboards, both at work on a WinXP PC as well as at home on a MacOSX PB. The touch&feel is really like a laptop keyboard which was for me the reason to buy this keyboard in first place since I can't type on these "regular" keyboards any more after I got so used to the Laptop keys with their low elevation :)
I initially bought a Logitech DiNovo but couldn't get the detached Num Pad to work on my Mac. So I looked further and found the MacAlly Icekey - some people might take it as a drawback that it is not wireless, but well I don't move my keyboard around that much and so I don't have to worry about empty battries?!
It also features 2USB ports each one on the left and right top side of the keyboard - but I have never used one.
The keyboard works great on the PC - the only thing you need to get used to is that the Apple key is then the Windows key and thus Alt and Win/Apple key are switched if you compare the keyboard to a regular win layout. also, the additional buttons (F13-F15 and Sound and eject) won't work on a PC but I can live very well with this :)
I would buy this keyboard again and again...
Customer Review: Nice white Summary: 5 Stars
Please excuse my english, i am spanish.
This keyboard is pretty nice. The scissors key system works pretty smoothly. The usb cable is pretty long, so you wont have any problems if the Mac is not near (but it might be too much cable if you plan on using it with a near macbook).
I give 4 stars on ease of use since you need to install a small software package to make the Sound and Eject keys to work... but the CD that came with this package did not work with Snow Leopard (i have not tried it anywhere else).
Nevertheless, i just opened Macally website, and there was the package (installing it was no problem, and every went smoothly).
I have used lots of Cheap USB PC keyboards, and all of them feel like a pretty cheap plastic thing. This keyboard is way different. It feels heavier on the top (near the top keys) and pretty solid. The USB ports on it are well made, i keep inserting several different USB flash drives on it, and it is not loose at all.
I give 4 stars on the noise since it is a bit louder that my laptop keyboard. Nevertheless it is pretty silent.
