Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Macally USB Slim Keyboard - ICEKEYCustomer Review: It's all about the feel Summary: 5 Stars
I have to agree with all of the positive reviews! I've been a Mac person for years, and have never considered another keyboard until I needed to buy another one and read reviews here. For me, everything else is peripheral to the how it feels to type on the keyboard. It makes my extended Mac keyboard feel like driving a truck, and I immediately started typing quite a bit faster. It's also quite a bit thinner, so I don't have to raise my hands as high in the air to type on it. The combined effect is that it's much more comfortable to use, especially if you work on your Mac all day as I do.
I do have a couple of small complaints, but as I said, they aren't central to the experience. I'd like the USB ports to be on the rear rather than on the sides. If anything is plugged into the right hand port, the wire interferes with where you normally are moving the mouse around, and if you use more than one keyboard, anything in the left hand port will interfere with that. (I see some other people have had difficulty with some devices not getting enough power from the USB ports, but as I recall the same is true of the Mac keyboards.) And the when I tried to install the drivers that enable the volume and cd/dvd eject keys, my Stuffit Expander crashed rather than open the dmg. I downloaded the drivers from MacUpdate, and now they work normally.
I like this keyboard so much I'm seriously considering buying a couple more and replacing the ones on my other Macs, I like it that much.
February 2011: Having now owned this keyboard for the better part of a year, I'm still as enthusiastic about it. I use it many hours every day in my daily work, and it still looks and feels new. Here's what impelled me to add to my review: I dumped a full, large mug of hot liquid on the keyboard yesterday. A real tidal wave. I unplugged it, dried it out for a day, and it still works perfectly. I had an incident several years ago where I spilled much less on my Mac keyboard, and it died on the spot. So I'm impressed that it's designed to withstand a major water spill! At this point it looks like my future keyboards will all be from Macally.
